My poor boss was a bit embarrassed, she walked into the office and started talking to us and we're like "shhhhh!".
She was in the loo and hadn't heard the tannoy!

As well as the silence (not difficult as I was the only one here at the time, but I did feel a bit strange as it wasn't that apparent that's what I was doing), I marked the occasion with cookies and a flypast. Admittedly, I didn't actually organise the flypast.
Cancel the lesson if you have to work, but do not cancel them all. Agree a deadline with the tutor for cancelling by eg 3 days in advance is okay; less than that maybe you can tell work you are unavailable?
It may ease your mind.
Could you organise a double session for next time if you have to miss out so tutor doesn't lose out but it isn't too inconvenient either?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Tealover, why don't you phone your teacher and discuss this with her?really discuss it, I mean. Tell her how very bad you feel, but explain it's entirely down to work, and you don't have any say. I'm sure she will understand, especially if you give her the option of opting out. Then explain you might have to do the same with the next lesson. I'm sure she realises you can't help it. It's not like you're cancelling to go out socially, or to wash your hair or something!
Does she lose money when you cancel? That does make it a little different, I suppose, but even so, if after you explain, she's happy for the status quo to remain, then it's ok!

Tea, I completely understand how you feel, I really dislike having to break appointments or otherwise mess people around.
As Pyxis says it's probably worth having a conversation with her. The other thing is that your employer should understand that you have commitments outside of work hours and may not always be able to break them to work away. I'd certainly tell mine so if he expected me to be away from home on an evening I have an Italian lesson!Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
Thanks peeps - have had a stern word with myself and calmed down a bit!
Working away, and late, are very much part of the job unfortunately. I do my best to keep evening commitments but it's just another joy of not having children that anything I might do with my time is seen as less important than if it was "family-related". Not that I'm saying children and family commitments aren't important, of course they are, but other things matter too!
Case in point - it feels like a bit of a struggle every Wednesday to get out in time to lead brownies. But if I was trying to leave just to drop off my own child and have no other involvement that would be seen (by some, not all here admittedly) as more worthy of respect.
Anyhoo - rant over!0 -

No only in the week. After the next lesson we've moved to a later time which should help. At the moment, as well as being away at short notice, I'm also struggling to get back to the lessons even when I'm technically local as the traffic's so bad.
Oh well, what a silly thing to get upset about! My plan for this year was always to work through the list of things I've been putting off for years, it just didn't occur to me that a new job and new hobbies would take up so much time.0 -
WaS is going out! Yes, I am! After being awake half the night listening to the bliddy Windows Start Up sound I have entered stubborn and rebellious mode! How much worse can it get, really? In an hour WaSp and I are going for a long drive and then when it starts to get dark we are going to the little stretch of beach that we found where no one goes and I am going to watch the sunset (from under a blanket in the safety of the car). I shall then have fish and chips whilst watching the sea. This is the first time, hospital appointments aside that I have been out since July. If it makes me psychotic then what's the difference? I already am! WaS is in Conquer The World mode!

Ooh WaS that sounds like a lovely afternoon and evening. I really hope you enjoy it x.0
