Any dvds that you're now able to watch and want to catch up on?
Food/drink that's an indulgence rather than an everyday thing?
Something for when you go out on one of your animal visits?

I love the theory 'I bought her chocolates last year so she doesn't need any this year' NOT.

OMG, is it nearly birthday time again already?
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).
  • Hahahaha! Not until next month JM, but Milliefleur has to plan in advance so that she has someone who can take her shopping for the day. It tends to take a day because she is very precise. She will not buy the same gift twice in a row! It's so difficult to think of things because she either thinks I am too old for them, can't see to choose the gift and won't settle for someone else's choice and won't buy anything practical at all. She was overjoyed with her choice of a bottle of perfume and a tiny little hand cream, I was horrified that she had spent so much!

DVD's are possible elsien providing I don't ask for childish ones which I am clearly too old for. I would ask for a plant which she would probably buy but I am full to the brim with them! Photo frames she did last Christmas so that's out. If I don't make a list she will end up spending a small fortune on another bottle of perfume and I shall be wracked with guilt again.

  • What about a gift card that you can spend online? My Aunty buys me Debenhams ones, and I can then browse online at my leisure and buy whatever I want.

Toiletries wise, do you like Soap & Glory? I think they smell gorgeous, and they do some really good and affordable gift sets.

Well done on being an awesome friend btw WaS! You were there for and supported your teacher friend at his time of need. :)
  • That's a thought. I wonder if Gift Cards might be ok? I have never tried Soap and Glory but I do love Sanctuary so I would probably like it.

Another amusing anecdote was the year I put a potato masher and egg whisk on the list. Milliefleur was horrified that "The poor girl can't even afford basic kitchen equipment!" and sent WaSp straight to the store with money to buy them for me and then asked for another list. I was happily using a fork for years, the whisk and masher were just an indulgence in my mind...

We have very different gift buying ideas!

WaS, will your new Landlady let you have, say, a hamster?

Milliefleur could buy you one, and the cage etc. or just the hamster. Or just the cage! Then she could get you accessories for Christmas!

I love the mice, too faerie! Sadly cuddly ones are even more expensive than a cuddly Bagpuss or I would have one (a dozen) by now.

That is a really good idea, Pyxis. I shall email the landlady, that is just the sort of thing Milliefleur would accept as a good gift and I would love another hamster.

Anecdote number 3-The time I put a set of towels on the list and WaSp came home with half of Milliefleur's airing cupboard and the request for a new list...

I approach this time of year with a sense of high amusement and dread. She is beyond generous with gifts and then tells us how she uses a torch to get to the bathroom at night because she can't afford to put the light on and sits covered in blankets rather than put the heating on! She only has her state pension and she really cannot afford to buy what she tries to. Wasp asked for a bottle of £16 whisky last year, she bought a bottle for £50 that WaSp felt ashamed to drink. She also saves £300 from her pension when she can and then transfers £100 to each of her children, she has no savings for herself at all. We both cringe every birthday and Christmas.

What about some of those moisturisers that were discussed a while back?
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
  • Oooh good idea, Whitewing! I shall search back through the last thread and find out the names. I shall have to give her names or she will buy a Chanel one or something. The perfume she bought me was Chanel No5, I stared at it thinking I am holding the equivalent of a months heating for her.
