My parent helped someone escape a forced marriage. The sad thing was that it wasn't just the parents, it was the siblings beating her up as well - an element of they'd had to go through it, why shouldn't she?
I agree code, if someone goes into an arranged marriage from choice and with realistic expectations then it can work well for them. I think I watched the forced marriage programme the other day - it did seem to focus on women, maybe because that's more prevalent, but men get forced into marriage as well and I did wonder why that wasn't addressed.

What time would be your era of choice to live in?
I think i'd like to have been around (as in at least a teenager/early twenties) in the 80's. :o

There were so many bands i would have loved to have seen back then! :p

Or the swinging 60's ;) for all the wrong reasons lol

I was there. For some reason I seem to have very little memory of some of it. I keep having conversations about "what was I doing when that happened?.
I think I'd like to go back and spectate my favourite times rather than actually be in them. I like my modern conveniences and central heating far too much.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I was born 86 so don't really remember much (apart from the amazing kids tv shows :p )

What favourite times would you like to go back to? :)

(and yeah i'd only go back if i can take my phone, internet and heating!!)

My look (pale and chubby) would have been in around 17th century. But I think even being in the same era as my siblings (teenager in the 1970s or even 1980s) would have been better.

can i ask something? does anyone else have a bad memory? Like i don't know if its normal or there is something wrong with me. :o I can remember snippets of childhood, bits of my teens but honestly since i first fell ill my memory has been terrible. At best i can remember a few weeks, sometimes months back. But thing that happened a few years ago? Nope :( It saddens me as i feel there are happy times i can't remember but i dont know if it's the side effect of my meds, part of my bipolar or that there's more worrying reasons.

Doesn't have to be a sinister reason. My memory isn't very good and I don't have an illness or take medication. I was reading an autobiography the other day and wondering whether people really remember all that stuff from years ago because I certainly don't. Mine would be the shortest autobiography ever (aside from never having really done anything.)

The meds and illness probably don't help - one person I know who has a terrible memory thinks it's due to his epilepsy which took years to get under control. But sometimes I think it's more of a live in the moment type thing. Although stress makes mine worse as well. And I suppose if you've got lots going on, laying down new memories might be harder so they don't "stick" as well.
ETA Or it might also be to do with the memory retrieval mechanism - I remember once reading that it's easier to retrieve memories if you're in the same emotional state as when they were laid down. On a really simple level, it's easier to remember something you did when you were drunk the next time you're drunk, rather than when you're sober. So (and this is total guesswork on my part) maybe they're harder for you to access when in a different mind frame?
Is it something you've ever mentioned to the GP?

    That all makes sense.

I;ve alwasy been afraid of asking the GP about it, partly cos you dont expect memory problems to kick in till old age and partly cos there's a part of me that panics it means something is seriously wrong. :o

Right, it's no good, I seriously need to get to bed. I need one of the techie people (Code!) to stick some sort of parental control on my internet so I get some sleep instead of fannying around looking up stuff I really don't need to know.
    night all.
