I've also decided what Gitdog's dance routine would be if we ever got to Britain's got talent.
Playing to his strengths, I'm going to be Fred Dibnah and he's going to be the steamroller. (Showing my age again now.)

I had an eurghh afternoon due to someone pretty much telling me how useless I was. Repeatedly. I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time but it gave me a stonking headache.
Then I got to parent's and Gitdog had been !!!!!, but a really funny !!!!! which made me laugh. So went for a long walk to clear the head and feel more normal now.

Code, 15 minutes lying in the dark sounds fine to me - take whatever you can get from it.

ETA I'm now watching the programme about transgender kids and marvelling at how accepting the parents have been when the children are so young. Not sure I could do it.
    What channel is that on?

I'd like to think i could deal with it if my child was transgender, to me if i had a son who was , i'd gain a daughter, if i had a daughter who was i'd gain a son. They'd still essentially be the same child, just a different gender than born with.

I'm watching a documentary on forced marriages, its so sad to see people being threatened and told they are bringing shame and being cut of from their families just for not going along with outdated beliefs. :( Nobody should be forced into anything.

You're probably right MU, on both counts. MIL lovely but she's skinny and always complaining that she has to lose weight. Whereas I'm a chubster who can't touch her toes. She's usually quite clumsy though so it's annoying when everyone else in the class is pretty good including the other beginners and I need the yoga equivalent of a dunce cap.

Elsien, hugs. Sounds like a tough day. You clearly need gitdog hugs.

DA dog is currently lying on the couch on his back with both paws in the air.

In happy news, my new cabinet is here and it's soo lovely. It came from England and the courier delivering it was mocking my accent, like somehow it was surprising that he'd encounter someone with a Scottish accent in Scotland. DA dog hated him and kept barking at him.

On channel 4 at the moment.
It's annoying me slightly because it's a bit stereotypical - girls go and get their nails done while boy plays with fire engine. But then again you go into shops and it's all girls toys and boys toys which is hard for kids, they don't seem to have much choice. As the most ungirly girl ever, I'm glad things weren't all pink and fluffy when I was younger. I did have a doll's house - it made a great fort for my toy soldiers.

This is going to sound silly, but at work we have these buns with rings on, and recently that had crowns or monsters on and i hated it when people asked for a "boy" one or a "girl" one. So what if a girl wants a monster one, or a boy wants a crown one? why do we need to segregate it? Why not let any kid play with any toy they want to regardless of gender? I always wanted a scalextric as a kid but wasn't allowed cos it was a boys toy, maybe i'm just bitter :rotfl: :o

Shall look up that programme on 4.

    - - -

Code maybe yoga is just the MIL's niche? DA sounds like Swain's dog, though its more when i get close and she decides to lie on the sofa, anting belly rubs :rotfl: i do love the fact that whenever i get there she now comes running to me for some love :D can't say the same abut the kitty however (unless she wants treats!)

The new cabinet sounds good! i had no idea you were so far oooop north!

The interesting thing about transgender children is that the transition is easier if the hormones are started before puberty. But it's such a life altering thing that it's hard to trust someone so young to know what they want to be. I spend my life feeling like I'm living in the wrong time; I can't imagine feeling like I'm living in the wrong body.

MU - it's only in the last couple of hundred years that marriage has been for love, rather than an economic decision. I don't think arranged marriage is a bad thing altogether assuming both parties agree but forced marriage is a different story. Nobody should be forced to marry anyone they don't want to and the consumation of a forced marriage is a punishable offence. I can't understand how a parent could want that for their child.

I had a tank. I'd put my barbies in it and drive them around 'town'. My barbies were badass.

I do understand arranged marriages, they've been around for many years and have worked for many and if both parties are happy to enter into it, that's on thing, but being forced on threat of death is just wrong :(

I was a bit of a girly girl, i used to make the barbies marry action man, but the i'd happily launch them down the stairs and stage accidents so maybe i was a weird child

My parent helped someone escape a forced marriage. The sad thing was that it wasn't just the parents, it was the siblings beating her up as well - an element of they'd had to go through it, why shouldn't she?
I agree code, if someone goes into an arranged marriage from choice and with realistic expectations then it can work well for them. I think I watched the forced marriage programme the other day - it did seem to focus on women, maybe because that's more prevalent, but men get forced into marriage as well and I did wonder why that wasn't addressed.

What time would be your era of choice to live in?
