Ok here's what I think on the £1000 thing.
1) I think we need some rules, what can be included. FJ just mentioned comp wins, how would you say how much they are worth, would you go on the RRP?
Are we going to start from nothing? Because I think I would rather start from say £10 because it would probably take me a while to make some money from nothing.
Can it only be making money from 'nothing'? I think we should change that slightly. For example on that £1000 from nothing thread you can't count things you've sold on ebay that you previosuly bought. For example I probably have a load of clothes I could get rid of, which I could count towards the target if we allowed it.
What does everyone think?Student MoneySaving Club member 017!0 -
i think that freebies and comp wind should be included- but only freebies that you got absolutely for nowt- not ones that you got by buying something else like GWP's. their worth would have to be their RRP or e.g. in the case of cosmetic samples, their worth based on the full-size RRP.
i think you should be able to count stuff you sell on ebay or carboots- for old stuff the full sellign price and for stuff youve bought to sell- the proffit- minus the listing, paypal, stall etc. fees:T The best things in life are FREE! :T0 -
free goods could be MBG or TMF stuff rom the supermarket. me and my oh have had loads of free food, drinks, cleaning stuff etc. thsi way.
another good freebie for students is the guardian student vouchers, you get £30 worth of them by emailing your name, address, uni and student number to student.vouchers@guardian.co.uk - either use them or sell them on ebay! if you liev in a shared house, you can bulk order eveyones at once.
i think that money saved by using free vouchers shoudl be counted too!:T The best things in life are FREE! :T0 -
i agree with ames, i think starting from £10 or something would be better cuz it's a bit easier
but you know the free stuff, i think that's a good idea but you know like the buy one get one frees for example - do you have to use your original £10 (or whatever we start with) to help you get it? it's exciting to see this challenge coming together!
:)
are there any other challenges people would like to do as well as the grocery one?0 -

Not sure on the BOGOF one because I don't think I am going to count them in for myself because the reason I would of bought the BOGOF is because it is that, it is too dear normally.
What about cashback on things you have purchased? I think we should include that.
A tip: apply for all the free sim cards. I had stopped doing this because didn't have anything to do with them, but am applying again now. I think you can get about 30p each for them at the market or ebay and more if doing a carboot.
Does anyone know any offers for opening a bank account at the moment? I've seen some ING offers on here but apparently they only work in specific areas.
I've seen an A&L offer around, anyone know how if this works?

I think the A&L offer was on opening an ISA via Quidco - there was quite a high level of cashback from it.
If you're getting sim cards to sell on, don't forget to claim your cashback - there was 35p for O2 sims on Quidco last time I looked.
Things I think we should include:
- Cashback (i.e. Quidco)
- Free Vouchers (Pigsback etc)
- Comp Wins (at RRP)
- Freebies at RRP (done by % for sample size products)
- Any unspent weekly budget
Most of those are pretty easily worked out, so should keep it reasonably simple!**"Cheer up, it could get worse" - I cheered up, and look, it got worse!**0 -
sounds good! maybe you could add if people do paid surveys etc too? like ciao or valued opinions or yougov or whatever. and i do a paid to click one at archerfish, but it's soooo slow, you get 0.25p per click and the pay out is £3 - i'm only on £1 something and that took AGES haha0

Yeah I started that ages ago and am £1. Not gonna doing it I don't think!
I don't think should include freebies, unless you sold them or gave them as a present. I don't think I will because it's not actual money. But if everyone else wants to then do it, i'm just a bit picky so ignore me!Student MoneySaving Club member 017!0 -
Ooh, forgot about the surveys! Only need one more for to get to a voucher on Lightspeed now**"Cheer up, it could get worse" - I cheered up, and look, it got worse!**0
