I've just finished my Ba in Bus Mgt and start my PGCE(PCE) in a couple of weeks - major hard work due to start - primarily due to the travel from L/Spa to Oxford everyday - sigh.
Also a single mum with 2 boys so I may be able to help on the money saving front - LOL.
I think I'll give the betting a miss as I can never get my head around it but I do E-Bay stuff occasionally - usually the stuff I bought previously and I've got bored of now - like a previously mentioned raclette thing - I never learn - and just gather gadgets!!!! Or go round department stores scrounging samples and then sell them on - lol.
could you not do some tutoring, teach an evening class or workshops? as youre trainign to be a teacher and have 2 lads you must be good at stuff like that?
im doing a PGDE and make money that way:T The best things in life are FREE! :T0 -
The mood thing makes perfect sense Swirlywurly! I worked in a betting shop for 18 months, during my last year at school and for a while after that, and saw a lot of ups and downs with the regulars we had - if they were having a bad couple of weeks on the horses, it was completely obvious! I think it's something that everyone should be wary of if they're going to go into the Matched Betting schemes or any other gambling set up
theres nowt like gaining or losing money to make you happy or sad!:T The best things in life are FREE! :T0 -
Oo and in regards to phone deals i managed to get 500mins/500texts with a K810i for £20 (12 months). I also get to upgrade after 9 months so will do that and sell the phone on probably.Student MoneySaving Club member 0210

I'm confused about the Maintenance Grant - is it part of the loan? I.e. with interest and has to be paid back?No longer using this account for new posts from 20130

your grant is to keep- non-repayable. they used to pay your fees with a non-repayable fees grant and all of your maintenance was a loan, now they loan you teh money for your fees, give you a maintenance loan and a maintenance grant.:T The best things in life are FREE! :T0

Nope - One of the conditions of the teaching bursary is that you lose it if you do any teaching part time as a job. You can do any other job apart from Teaching.
I won't have any time for any part time work though - I have to catch 8.10 train to get to Oxford and 5.10 to get by 6 to pick little up on the days that I'm in college and I'll be teaching in my local college full time on the days that I'm not attending. The only days I'm free are the weekends and those are sacrosanct as I can't get childcare then and I need to spend time with the kids.
It's only for this next academic year and then hopefully I can get a job teaching at a college or Young Offenders institute somewhere after that.
It's a PGCE for FE, not secondary or primary so having littlies doesn't really prepare you - LOL.
Mind you - doing a PGCE, they throw quite a bit of non-returnable dosh at you - what with Bursaries, Maintenance grant, Parents learning allowance and childcare grant - I should be far better off this year than the last 4 - phew!Noli nothis permittere te terere

Another latecomer here...and yes, I know what time it is. I'll be going to bed after this reply! I'm just about to start my 2nd year of Biology at Bangor University - can I join too?
I'm hoping that this year will go better for me, financially as well as otherwise. I spent way too much and my hallway-mates were very cruel. I wasn't the best for being clean etc., but far from the worst on the hallway. I was their target for messy pranks, 3am wakeups, and on more than one occasion public humiliation. As you can imagine I didn't make many friends in my first year.
I'll make sure to contribute some tips and recipes tomorrow to make up for the whingeing, though. Stay tuned!0 -
