Hi Violet, here is the original thread - its a bit long but the gist of it is all the in first post! What does everyine thinks?
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=271716
that's great, thank you! i think this is such a cool idea! i also liked the idea of setting aside £100 of the loan too, but this is good because it's like you've made that £100 out of nothing instead of the loan!
also, hello to all the new student MSEs! :j0 -
oh before i forget...i don't know if i mentioned this but i sent my cv off with a cover letter to a bunch of places, but i noticed some of them were looking for xmas temps too:
argos - http://www.argoscareers.com/christmas/
boots - had forms in the trafford centre (and maybe in other stores too?)
and a lady at M&S last month said that they start recruiting in september, and to ring a number (it might be on their jobs section of their site) for infoit can't hurt to ask in supermarkets too, and i know HMV do temps as well.

While we are on the subject of xmas temps, Debenhams are recruiting for them at the moment - they have signs in all the windows uin the manchester one and i should think that applies to them all. Good luck with the jobhunting! There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0

thanks! do u have to get a form for the debenhams one? although all this talk of getting £1000 from nothing is so much more tempting than getting a job right nowwww!0

Heres a link for the Debenhams jobs - there is a a bit about seasonal jobs on the right hand side.

Here guys, £1000 from nothing sounds great, let's do it! Think of all the freebies (decent ones anyway) we'll get from Freshers Week that could be sold on ebay as stocking fillers! Mwah ha ha ha, soon we'll all be rich and heading to Mexico!
Also, about my £100... I do put this into a separate account that is purely for saving up and is going towards me and boyfriend setting up a wee home after I graduate, so in goes my cheque back and also £100 per month each pay day from my wages. You see, last Christmas my boss said I'd be getting a Christmas bonus of £100 and that thereafter my wages would stay at this increased amount. I guess I had been walking around cunningly disguised as a model employee. Anyhoo, £100 a month totally adds up!

And nothing's going to bring me down0 -
Hey, i'm seen you around the boards (recognise the dress)! If you don't mind me asking what are you saving the £3000 for?
hello, not at all! I'm saving for a car when i finish uni - as soon as i graduate i'm looking for a full time job so i'll need one pretty much straight away. I'm going to try and do it without a car loan, so wish me luck! xBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Thats a fab idea, I have always paid for my cars out of cash. My mates took the P*ss when i bought a 10 year old clio for £500 however I had the last laugh when they were skint every month cos they all had to pay £250 for the brand new cars that they had all bought!
Just a thought for those of us that do drive what do you do to save money when motoring?
I try and fill up at shell garages, they have a points card and they fuel is cheaper than most places, even the supermarkets.
Also parking, its sooo expensive! I almost always try and go into town after 6pm to do my shopping then you can park on the street for nothing. Its handy in manchester cos most of the shops are open till 8. Otherwise try and do your shopping in a non city centre place for example, the arndale car park in the city centre is £2.80 for up to 2 hours  . However if I go to the next village then the car park is 20p for the same! There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0 -
I think I get the matched betting thing now but haven't got the guts to do it in case I mess it up somehow.
£1000 from nothing: Some ideas for your first pound...? http://www.timeout.com/london/features/2201.html :rotfl:
Just finished my student placement and got £10 cash and £20 in vouchers as gifts so will see where I can get with that.0 -
Money from nothing sounds like a plan! Can I count the vouchers I ordered from Pigsback this week? Or maybe we should ask who's in, how much we want to raise each (although that £1000 is *very* tempting!), and set ourselves a start date.... Make it a teeny bit competitive**"Cheer up, it could get worse" - I cheered up, and look, it got worse!**0
