    • Finding Martins "moneysavingexpert.com": £priceless
    :D

hehe too right! and back to the mobiles thing... my friend was saying that basically the people on the phone from o2 or wherever can offer these great deals because even if they give you a ridiculously cheap and great deal, it's not like they're losing a lot of money cuz they still have you as a customer at least! aaaaaaaalso you can do this blagging to get a good deal with things like sky and ntl (or virginmedia or whatever it is now :D)
  • I'm in the process of trying to negociate a new contract with O2. They have offered me 500 mins and 500 texts for £20 with a K810i which is good and i was going to go for that. However my boyfriend has just moved to Singapore for a year so i'm hardly going to use any texts! I don't like the idea of going with 3 because they use overseas call centres and i tried to wangle a free memory card out of O2 but they weren't having any of it! Will ring back and try to negociate further because i don't want to pay for things i won't use.

I use natwest for my banking. I don't use my overdraft and although i could invest it i don't know if i can get round to doing that. At least now i can track my account without having to go to the bank all the time!

Someone asked about online banking: I'm with HSBC, have a student account and an ISA and have it online so can see both accounts on screen and can transfer money between the two easily.

Mobiles: I am on pre-pay. I have the 02 sim card where you top up £10 a month and you get 300 free texts. Plus you still get the £10 credit to spend on whatever. I find that is good because I mostly text. It also gives you a bit of free internet time.

Matched betting: I had a quick look on the forum the other day and that introductary thread is long, so I think I will leave it for now, looks complicated!

Stoozing: Am looking into this. Will probably transfer most of my overdraft into my ISA when I get my loan through.

I am going to apply for a &more card from M&S but it asks for income and employment details, so I doubt I will be accepted being a student, but I will try! I have just joined a free trial for a company that lets you see your credit report, it's what the company see's when you apply for a card etc. It is a months free trial which Quidco will hopefully pay me £5 for doing! So that will let me look at my credit report.

Here's a recipe for Shepard's Pie. I just kind of made this up. I think normally you use beef/mince I'm not sure, but I don't know how to cook that so I used chicken instead. Cook a couple of fillets in the oven. Chop some carrots and brocolli. Put them in a dish with some frozen peas, the cooked chicken chopped up and gravy. Then cover in lots of mash and make that pattern they have with a fork. Put in the oven to brown.

It made quite a few meals and was yummy, plus I knew exactly what was in it! You can put what you like in it really, whatever you have.

what's stoozing btw? and also, maybe we could all try and learn the matched betting together...? it all goes completely over my head!
  • Hello again

Ohh my Orange contract is cheque back, and what I do when I receive the cheque is pay it into my savings account as in my mind its already money I have spent so it's a little bit to put away as well as my £100 per month (which goes into my savings account every pay day).

Stoozing is taking your interest free overdraft for example and placing it in a savings account. So you earn interest on it. People do it with credit cards too. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cards/stooze-cash-credit-cards

I have a weird question here: When I go back to uni do you think it would be better to take loads of clothes which would avoid having to wash as often but they would all pile up or take just what I need and wash them more often? I am thinking the latter one because it would save on space and even if I took loads I would end up wearing the same things anyway!

  • lol! If you pile it up, you'll end up having to do loads in one go... Take what you need, and what you're realistically going to wear - No point in filling your wardrobe up with stuff that's just going to collect dust!
**"Cheer up, it could get worse" - I cheered up, and look, it got worse!**
  • i took more than i needed and got my mum to wash it when i went home...hahaha or did a big pile of it by myself which was a bit of a mess! but i took more underwear because i found that obviously you wear clean every day but you don't always need clean jeans or clean tops or whatever everyday. so instead of doing washes more often cuz i'd need clean underwear, i just did them less often cuz i took loads of socks and knickers and everything. so i did fewer big washes instead of lots of little ones. i hope i explain this right and don't accidentally sound like i'm dirty or something hahahaha

In my halls the washer was £2.50 per wash! I'm a girl who likes my clothes and too keep them all in good order they all have to be washed seperatly according to colour and temp etc so you can imagine that I was spending at least a tenner a week washing.

To cut down on this i just bought a big bucket and stared to handwash everything. it made me clothes look better for longer and if you soak them overnight you dont have to do too much scrubbing! The clothes were then lugged to the laundery room where i took advantage of the free spins and the free tumble dryer!
