- Ten 12p texts a day: £438 a year
- A £1 bus ride, twice a day: £700 a year
- A Starbucks every day: £700 a year
- A takeaway meal twice a week: £2,000 a year
- Five pints of Carling every Friday and Saturday: £1,400 a year
That's in fact why i get a shared flat next to school even in London to save on transport. Waking up later => I have fewer coffee consumption. Packaged lunch or going home to get a quick bite => saving more. Well. I think cutting my five pints to say 3 pints probably will save a couple of hundreds a year.
So savings does add up from small things.
BTW, do guys here use pay-as-you-go mobile or pay-monthly plans? I am always being abit indecisive of which to go for.0 -

Another tip: join quidco. I joined yesterday. It's casback on your shopping and there are also a few few things you can complete for money. I am a member of several cashback sites but haven't done them for ages. Think I will stick with this one now.
Awesome! And I second joining quidco - got £120 knocked of my car insurance, got my breakdown cover for £4.59 and get 20% off HMV - 10% student discount, 10% quidco so I now buy all my cds, dvds and games online.
Also, interested to know if anyone has tried 'stoozing' and if so did you find it easy to do?0 -

I always go pay monthly. There's some really good deals out there, and, as long as you pick the right ones and are careful with your usage, it should work out cheaper than PAYG. When I was on PAYG I never had any credit left on the damn thing! If you're going to go onto pay monthly, check the coverage for your area first - you'll be stuck with the contract for a mimimum of 12 or 18 months, and that's no use if the cover isn't good!**"Cheer up, it could get worse" - I cheered up, and look, it got worse!**0 -
Hi guys, what a brilliant idea! Can I join too please? I'm just about to go into my second year of a primary education degree at Manchester Met. This is my second degree, the first I spend all my time partying and not enough studying
I think the only good thing about that is that I now know how I waste money and I try and avoid it now! I really need to save money this year cos I went a bit mad last year and as a result had to spend the entire summer living of a tenner a week. I also have the rent contract from hell which involves paying £900 far too often, we even have to make a payment on the 21st December
I'm looking forward to sharing some tips and ideas with everyone but off the top of my head: Go and look at the old style board. The people on there are incredible and there are some really good threads about how to save money on food and cleaning stuff. The meals for under 50p thread is excellent.
Also check out the freebies section, you can get free haircuts, stationery etc.
I'm planning on using some of my load to do a bit of matched betting - does any other student do this?

thanks for your tips, the old style board is really good! i think we should do our own student version of cheap meals though
what is everyone's favourite recipes?
about your rent...that's so unfair! i know with mine, i think we can change the date the money goes out to coincide with the terms and loan payments ... we've got one planned for jan 1st but we're gonna change it to a few weeks lateri mean...i hope we've changed it, i remember it being said we should! :O lol

ooh i just got a call frm carphone warehouse, who wanted me to upgrade my contract as it's nearly finished. i told them bout the deal my brother is on from 3 - £15 a month, and u can have either 100 texts and 500 mins or 500 txts and 100 mins - my bro is on the latter. and as it's not cheque back, you just pay the £15 and not some really expensive amount which is redeemed later. the guy from carphone warehouse said sometimes 3 has bad coverage (my bro is fine though?) and that it does sound like a good deal, lol. but i know sometimes carphone warehouse will give you a good deal to keep you on.
when i got my contract, it was 99p a month as the phone was clearance - that was their cheapest deal. but two things to remember are: you have to pay £29.99 which they redeem, and which can be quite painful on the pocket until they do redeem it, and secondly that you can get greedy with the minutes and go over with it hehehe oops. ok and to summarise, i don't think i'd go for pay as you go, but for a contract like the 3 one as long as i REALLY stick to it and don't go overrrr!0 -

I can't get my head round the idea of matched betting, just can't understand it! Besides, I'm not all that lucky anyway, so I think I'll just stick to the usual Grand National and Derby betting and keep my fingers crossed**"Cheer up, it could get worse" - I cheered up, and look, it got worse!**0 -

I'm with ya! I did a bit at about easter time last year but it took me so lone to actually get my head round it. They key is to print off the introductory thread and read it over and over again and it suddenly goes click! There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart.
