Depends when you messaged them I guess. If you sent it a week ago I'd say it's poor service to not at least acknowledge the message. If you sent it a few hours ago or even a day or two I'd say it's fine.

Sent weeks ago. Still no reply. Can't be bother to call up just now. Maybe after the New Year.

Login is down for me right now: Usually happens around this time every month. Aqua produces a new statement and the web site goes down due to people logging in. Well you know, Newday can't afford another server for load balancing. Yes I hear you Newday, "What's load balancing? Hey is dat a new credit card which ... er ... balances da load?" :)

Update: Letter in reply to my (1st) complaint said 'we are aware of the issue........but unable to give a timescale (to resolve it). It is not safe for customers who are abroad to access the website and it will be suspended until we can fix this'. That was in October!

They credited my account with 'a gesture of goodwill' TWICE. And then debited one of the payments two months later.

I asked for a replacement card before the old one ran out because it was worn out. Can only issue it for the remaining period of the existing card they said and then sent a new card starting immediately and lasting five years.

    You couldn't make it up.
  • I phoned Aqua to ask why. The female customer services rep didn't have a clue what I was talking about and when I asked her why I had to log on using a VPN she didn't know what a VPN was. Basically you can't manage your account when you leave the UK and Aqua have confirmed they have no intention of changing this. It also takes 30 minutes+ for them to answer the phone so again useless when you are abroad. It was a great credit card for using worldwide and I spent thousands of pounds using it but unfortunately I will now have to use Halifax Clarity.

Why is it useless abroad? Can't you spend within credit limits and pay the balance when it is due via DD? You still get the Mastercard Forex rate and zero non-sterling transaction fees no?

It is only complicated if you have to spend more than your credit limit and try to pay off the balance before the payment due date.

Aqua credit cards are good to start with if you have no credit history or if you want to improve you credit score in general. I managed to apply for platinum credit cards (are these the mainstream ones? They tend to use the word Platinum a lot) and I had been accepted with reasonable credit limits (in one case quite high) within a year of the original Aqua card issue.

Originally, I acquired this card because I had not credit history and I wanted to improve my score. Since then my bank has offered me another credit card without even credit checking me (I guess they have their own internal scores?).

Long story short, I got used to pay contactless (card and Apple Pay/NFC with my other cards) and because I travel out of the UK two to three times a year I want to keep track of my purchases abroad. I also find their online management system slow and non-responding occasionally. I lost Aqua online access from abroad since mid August 2015. Therefore, I decided to close my Aqua account and last week I phoned them to apply for the closure. They told me that they will close the account with immediate effect, they will send me a letter confirming the closure and they warned me that I will not be able to re-open the account. It is strange though that I can still log in the online system (always within the UK).
  • Due to work pressures I have not been back to the UK for 18months.
Aqua Card works well but it is impossible to "manage the account" on line. Although I have had many VERY expensive phone calls to AQUACARD until I found this forum today I had no idea they had blocked all non UK traffic. I have had to resort to getting relative to log in on my behalf - hardly secure. The earlier smug remark on this forum about monitoring spending are hardly fair, exchange rates vary all the time and the only real way to check is to go online.
I also have Vanquis and this works perfectly everywhere.
Surely someone of Martin's stature could at least get Aquacard to address this problem .......... it is not rocket science, I suspect an underhand way of making money from a company that thrives on obfuscation.

I'm not sure a TV hack will be able to sort out a lender's IT infrastructure.

As reported earlier you'll need to do the VPN thing to pretend you're in the UK. (the same way people watch US shows online blocked in the UK)

I personally use SurfEasy for phone/tablet.

I'm hoping Aqua's mobile app will fix this issue.
  • Chuckley thanks for that, trying, already use VPN for Netflix - will advise.
