, but I'm hoping this is an early sign of other upcoming tariffs being cheaper, and some won't have such high exit penalties.
the only problem with waiting and hoping of price cuts or cheaper tariffs is you may miss out on one of these current deals (assuming one of these deals are cheaper than your current tariff that is)
even if there are new tariffs coming out for me anyway nothing even comes close to the Eon deal the next cheapest for me is £90 extra
I think most of these new deals and future deals will all come with some kind of exit fee, to stop or to deter you from switching to another should one become cheaper.0 -
I've never switched energy suppliers before (yes I know.....) but this has finally given me the shove I need. I've got one question though, for some reason our electricity is only in my husband's name (Mr Bloggs) whereas our gas is in both our names (Mr Bloggs and Dr 7WW) Does anyone know if this will cause any problems if we try to switch both accounts to one new supplier account (Mr Bloggs and Dr 7WW)?0

You could at least afford to wait until the last day or two of this offer, and other companies tend to launch their latest tariff about mid month, though some might be on 20th/21st or so.
This house hasn't had a tariff with exit fee for over a year.
It's also always been below or within £2 of the best available rival tariff at any moment I've checked.0 -
yup ive not switched yet, I,m holding on for a little bit while the offer is still on I think its on for 17 days, unless I read it wrong, so theres a bit of time yet (hopefully)0

I was going to switch to the EON tariff but I've just been informed that if you choose to pay by monthly variable direct debit you don't get the £35 per fuel reduction in standing charge.
Most disappointing and certainly not something that is made clear on their website given that the standing charge reduction is stated as being for paying by direct debit. Not fixed direct debit.
Guess I'll be sticking with First:Utility, they might not be the best all the time, but their prices are good and at least they really do offer flexibility in how customers manage their bills without penalising them.0 -
You're right NittyGritty. It runs until 10pm on 17 September 2015 so a bit of time to ponder yet.

That's right Shrimply. The £35 per fuel price reduction only applies to Monthly Direct Debits and not Variable arrangements. Sorry if this isn't clear.

But this is the problem. Firstly, I can find nothing at all in the switch information that states this standing charge reduction for paying by fixed direct debit. Despite the fact it mentions discounts for paperless billing etc
Secondly a monthly variable direct debit payment is still a "Monthly Direct Debit", is it not? Why should it be different? And why are they not more clear and consistently referring to a fixed direct debit when you also offer a variable direct debit option?
For me it means that paying for what I use monthly would cost me almost 25% more than paying a fixed amount. How that can be justified is beyond me.
As far as I'm concerned, people that are prepared to pay for everything they use month by month should be viewed as lower risk, they are less likely to build up large debts quickly and should be rewarded, not punished for no reason.0 -
Collective switching involves a group of people coming together, via a Third Party, to negotiate a particular tailored deal. Provided certain rules are met, the industry regulator lets us participate in these schemes. These rules include the need for customers to apply through the Third Party and not the supplier. We're not allowed to promote, sell or switch anyone to a collective tariff like the current MSE offer. This includes keeping it off our website. Instead, customers have to apply via the Third Party. In this case, the Cheap Energy Club. A breach of these rules would put us in seriously hot water with the regulator.
