thanks for reply,
just quick question, by signing up to the Eon tariff does this effect my direct debit payment in anyway? will the date or amount change I pay every month? or does it stay the same (amount and current date I pay now?)
I,m currently with Eon as you gathered
also will switching effect my clubcard points I currently earn?0 -
Although switching to a new tariff with the same company incurs no exit fee, just look around a bit first.
The exit fee may tend to keep you committed to that while rival tariffs emerge in the next few weeks and months.
Where I live neither of the MSE big switches was the best available here during their promotion run. Then the existing provider produced slightly decreases a month or two later. Still with no exit fee.0 -
yeah I had a look around, the nearest cheapest as such is £90 extra with scotish power, so the Eon deal is the best for me at the moment0

I am on a prepaid meter which is being switched to a normal one on 21 September. So I'll just miss out on being able to switch!0

Hi NittyGritty
The date we collect your Monthly Direct Debit won't change but the new prices might affect the amount. Payments are based on current prices and usage. Changes to either can have a knock on effect and may lead to a change in how much we ask for each month. As the new tariff is a tad cheaper than what you're paying at the moment, this may have an impact, particularly if the usage stays the same. Given the difference, though, it may not be much.
You can keep an eye on things and take more control through an online tool. This is the 'Direct Debit Manager' and includes being able to alter the amount. Comes in handy should circumstances change. Provided the account is billed up to the latest meter readings, payments can be changed by up to 20 per cent up or down. By up to 5 per cent up or down without readings. Before confirming the new amount, we'll let you know by how much we anticipate the account will be in credit/debit by the time of the annual review if payments are changed but usage doesn't alter as expected.
We aim for accounts to have as near to a zero balance as possible by the time of the annual review. To make sure you're on track, we review arrangements every quarter but, if necessary, will only change the amount at the mid-term and annual reviews. At the other times, we'll let you know if payments need to change but leave it up to you to make any adjustments.
For the new prices to have an impact, it depends on where you are in relation to the annual review. Before changing anything, though, we’ll be in touch by letter/email to let you know. This will be 14 days before any proposed change. At the annual review, any credit over a fiver will automatically be refunded.
There'll be no effect on your E.ON reward points. Provided you've opted in, these'll continue to build up at just over 4 points per day (1500 per year) and added to your account each month. You can exchange these for either Tesco Clubcard points or High Street Shopping Vouchers.
Hope this helps NittyGritty. Let me know if you need any more details.

Sorry cifpower but you're right. Whilst there's a prepayment meter in place, it won't be possible to switch to this tariff.

My current supplier is M&S Energy I have got economy 7 and use approx 80% night use
I very seldom change my provider although I have under the umbrella of SSE Was with Atlantic then Go Direct 5 and now M&S for the past 3 years
Doing a price comparison it shows that E-on is the best price by a long way. Saving of £247 on the MSE energy club. Because I am reluctant to change I am always nervous about the situation. It makes no sense to stay with M&S Energy so wondering just how easy it is to switch supplier. I know that some people end up with a nightmare situation. As I am elderly wish to avoid any major problems. Advice would be appreciated

Sign up via MSE CEC; sit back and wait for E.oN to send you a welcome pack, and a request for meter readings. There is no need to contact your present supplier as E.oN will manage all aspects of the switch. When the switch has been completed then wait for your Final Bill. Check the opening readings on E.oN's account match the readings on your Final Bill. It really is that simple. The switch should go through in 17 days from application. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Thank you for the information. My current fix with M&S ends on the 1st October . I think I am eligible to switch now as it will take some days to complete or should I wait until later in the month ?? It makes sense to change as everything is going up nowadays.
Thanks again Sue0 -

I assume that M and S will have contacted you by now to inform you that your tariff is coming to an end? Under Ofgem licence obligations, provided that you have 49 days or less to the end of your current contract, then you are free to initiate a switch without penalty (that is: no exit fees). You will remain on your present M and S tariff until the switch goes through.
Edit:
A point to check. The saving of £247 looks to be high for someone already on a fixed tariff. Comparison sites assume that when calculating the saving that you will pay for a month, in your case, on your present tariff followed by 11 months on M and S's standard tariff. This inflates both the cost and savings. The MSE CEC does allow you to check what you pay now against what you will pay going forward. Worth checking that you have latched on to the correct saving. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
