Fmess, thank goodness for neighbours like you that the poor man was discovered albeit late. A good community spirit is something that is not very common anymore. So sad."There is Life AFTER DEBT."LBM 2009 Total Debt £49046.24 Debt Free as of 27/08/20150

My goodness Fmess how sad. Sorry for you having to do an I'D too. Do you know much about the person?
No not at all. He didn't speak to any of the people in our street and avoided me at all costsI've spoken to his family this afternoon (they came so I didn't have to do the ID) and they said he never contacted them either.
It's weird but for the first time in 5 years I know everyone's name within about 10 houses around mine. Looks like I'll be getting new neighbours on both sides now as the old lady on the other side passed away in the spring too.LBM = 07/09/13 Debt = £13339 (100% cleared)

That's sad Fmess but not that shocking either. Streets seem to go through cycles of having old people on and then not. The area we are in now is quite mixed." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Aw... fmess, how sad to hear that your neighbour passed on. He is maybe much happier that way. I know that sounds stupid but sometimes people just want to be with their loved ones who have already passed over.
Hugs to you just now as you are trying to figure out your debt. Hope you manage to get some extra work.
I have been off the radar for a while as was working nightshifts, then headed away for the weekend.
Normally, this would have been really expensive but we tried wild camping for two nights (in our campervan). Normal costs for a campsite = £50... wild camping = free!!
We did spend money though... a grand total of £60. However... £15 of that was free money. £20 was for a meal out on the friday, £20 was for a new frying pan (killed our one) and £8 was for a new car charger for our phones.
The old saying is very true: buy cheap, buy twice.
Limited signal and pretty much no internet where we were based (however the views were stunning) so not much to do except play board games and argue with OH... two letter words are not acceptable to play scrabble with as it doesn't allow for gameplay to expand!!
Lots of discussions about finances... both of our credit cards will be finished up in January (mine is December).
Plan is to start paying £100 - £125 a month to the wedding fund from February.
After the wedding, we have discussed starting up an emergency fund then we plan to start overpaying the mortgage.
I am a bit surprised at this... both OH and I have matured and are now thinking about our finances in an adult fashion.
My plan for the ex-credit card payments is to start overpaying the mortgage. Hopefully.
If I pay £158.90 extra a month then that makes my payments £500. According to the mortgage overpayment calculator that would pay off the mortgage 5 years and 2 months earlier!!
:j
Away to do some xmas planning!!

Fmess - that is sad news about your neighbour.
Stewby - your camping weekend sounds fun - very old school.
Well we have collected a very tired, stinky DD from camp. When I was washing her school skirt (which she has had a week) I noticed that the little split at the back is now a massive split so I asked her to try it on so I could pin it and repair it and she has eaten so much this weekend we couldn't fasten it:eek:.
Filled my car with gas and some petrol (it uses petrol then switches over when the engine is warm) so that was £20.16 from the fuel budget, we have £23 left for the rest of the month for DH's car. Then we called at a park to walk the dog and ended up spending £3.80 on a coffee, flapjack and an ice lolly - I really wish we hadn't now though.
DH uploaded a receipt to Shopitize which should give us £1.50 back (I don't really understand this one though) and another receipt to COS and Clicksnap which gave us a comp entry and 1p.
Right off to clean up the camping gear and the kitchen, boil wash the kids ready for school, then a bath and glass of wine for me.

Wow Fmess - what a day for you. Pleased that they managed to contact the man's family though - things like that make me grateful for the people that I have around me.
And applemuncher - I know it's a shock when a lot of money disappears in one go but I think you've made good headway towards Christmas so don't be too hard on yourself.
I'm pleased to report that today went pretty much as planned. NSD, batch cooking done, starting to feel a bit more human again and I even bothered to do my housework as well. I am exhausted so still need an early night tonight but feeling pleased with myself overall. Not giving up

nannyg - so pleased you had some time away with a lovely friend - and didn't have to spend any money.
bob - well done on stretching the supplies for a little longer.
stewby - your wild camping sounds excellent! And your discussions with OH about future stuff.
dolly - hope the kids boiled up nice and clean, and that dd fits into her skirt tomorrow...
ccl - do rest up woman! Did you see Mo whizz past???
fmess - well done you, noticing and then acting on your preoccupations. Not the usual way to get to know who the neighbours are...
bob - re looking at the receipts for the food shopping, I pay with cash and dh by card, so I could work it out like you suggested. But that is beyond me at the mo, so I'll just start with a new figure for the next 18 days.
Thank you for the kind words - they are very much appreciated. There may be an end in sight for the situation here, ie it 'may' end some time in October. But it may continue waaaaaaaaaaaaaay beyond that, so am not allowing myself to hope until I have a fixed end date.
Another NSD and an exercise session under my belt today.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Hi all. I'm back from the hen do - don't have the energy to respond yet, but hugs to those that need them. Hen was good but took 7hrs straight driving on Friday to get there - didn't stop once, so very tiring considering I've only ever driven 2hrs max in one go before. Five hours home today, so that was easier. Two NSDs over the weekend as everything was paid for and my passenger gave me petrol money
hope everyone's okay x

Morning All
Middle of the month week here already. I'm looking forward to having a little bit more to pay off the debt this week (around £100)
Other than that focusing hard on keeping the spends down so the NSD element of this challenge becomes more pressing.
Business finances are not great. I need to analyse why exactly but suspect that the affect of being around £100 a week down over the summer holiday period has built up a bit of a bad patch. Rent has to be paid tommorow eek.
So very much a week to keep focused on doing more with less!
Good luck to everyone else with their own personal challenges.

academia - that is a long drive, glad you are back safe and sound though.
Bob - this must be a stressful time for you. You definitely have the resilience to pull through a bad patch though.
apple - DD did get in her skirt this morning without complaining so her tummy must have settled down overnight.
My plans for the day are working this morning, then a quick lunch break during which I will make bolognese sauce for tea, then walk the dog and more work before the school run. No opportunity for spending there. I need to call at the bank at some point if I can too.
DD is going to Scouts tonight and her subs are due for the month but that is already budgeted for and I have the cash. Me and DH will try to get out cycling after tea today, I did no exercise over the weekend so I have some ground to make up this week.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler
