Good morning all!
My first day off after almost 2 weeks of working non stop. I am tempted to have a lie in and rest all day but I have a to do list longer than my arm. My nephew's 4th birthday and we're having a family lunch today. I'm in charge of vegetable barbecue so I need to go out and buy the ingredients. Will also do the weekly shopping. Kitchen needs a deep clean. The laundry is not too bad but the ironing is starting to resemble Mr. Everest. The left over stuff from our carboot sales 3weeks ago still need unloading from hubby's car (he hasn't used it for the last three weeks). And lots of decluttering and tidying up as my house has been neglected while I was working non stop. Bless DH coz he really tried to hold the fort while I was working, but the house needs a woman's touch now.
It's the first time in nine years that I am not working on the day the Great North Run is on. The route is one the road two blocks away from us but I have never had a chance to watch it in person. Would have loved to stand on the road side and cheer the runners on but with my mile-long to-do list, I am not sure if I can do it. Might have to wait till next year
The last two days have not been NSD's unfortunately. I went out for a meal on Friday night with my work colleagues as a leaving do for a dear colleague who is taking a promotion in another trust. So sorry to see her go as she is one of the best, but she so deserves this career progression. Only spent £17 for my meal and drinks and I've taken that from my own personal allowance this month (I still have £5 left). Because I was out, DH and sons had a fish and chips take away (taken from the dining out budget, leaving £11 to last the remaining half of the month).
Yesterday, I had my FIRST bought lunch since I joined the MSE in Feb this year. I went to church in the morning and had to go to work straight from there due to heavy traffic due to the Great North Run. I didn't have time to change my clothes or pick up my lunch bag (I should have foreseen that and prepared for it) I spent £6.50, which was a lot of money and I didn't get any pleasure from eating my lunch (the staff restaurant is shut during weekends so I had no choice but to buy my lunch from the hospital gift shop which is a lot more expensive). First bought lunch in 7 months is not bad at all. It's a record for somebody who used to buy EVERY lunch pre-MSE days.
Right, time to start ticking the boxes on my to do list. Wish you all a restful weekend. Get well soon misstara. If any of you will be at the GNR, best of luck!"There is Life AFTER DEBT."LBM 2009 Total Debt £49046.24 Debt Free as of 27/08/20150 -
I am working in South Shields today TOG - wish me luck for getting in and out of there
Another sickly one here - spent most of yesterday hiding from the world. Really hoping for NSD today as I've had 2 spendy days in a row. Plans include work, then batch cooking for next week. I have everything I need so no need to fret about going to shops etc.Not giving up
Working hard to pay off my debt

Hi CCL good luck getting in and out of work today. I hope I am not going to be locked in in our estate. My street is parallel to the A184 so I need to find another exit route to do our weekly shop. Get well soon."There is Life AFTER DEBT."LBM 2009 Total Debt £49046.24 Debt Free as of 27/08/20150

Hi all sorry I've been missing the last couple of days but I've been on an unexpected jolly with a friend of mine whose other half couldn't go and she thought of me!!!!!! So a freebie, and her hubbie gave her enough dosh to treat us to everything!!!! So we had a really good time and it was all paid for!!!
So I will have to read back through the thread and see how everyone's getting on

Today I shall sit on the naughty step. But ensure I can see the GNR on the telly...
I spent a lot yesterday, and am relieved it came in under three figures... I can account for it all, and would not not have spent any of it... But doing it all together induced a mighty gulp when I totted it all up. We did get 2 bui1dabears (1 big, 1 small) for dd for Cmas + bday, some more school shoes and socks for dd, some goodies from 99p/£ emporia as they are sooo much cheaper there than elsewhere, some hyacinth bulbs + gorgeous pots to plant them in for Cmas presents, two humungous tubs of nut butters from ho11 + b using a voucher for £11.50 and their buy-one-get-something-else-half-price.
Today, I shall not be spending!
Also...more confessions coming...I have absolutely no idea how much we have spent on groceries so far. Having our indefinite 'visitors/lodgers' is causing me to struggle to cope and dh has done some shopping for me. I usually ask him how much it was but have forgotten. I know that it isn't too much...
So, having failed on the 'reduce gubbins coming in to the house' (and many other aspects of the challenge), I shall pull my socks up and start again. I know that this is a reaction to my current situation and given that the situation isn't about to change, then I need to sort out how I am reacting to it.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -

Lucky you - how lovely.

TOG - first bought lunch in 7 months is amazing. Sorry you have so much to do on your only day off. I am in the same boat. When I go to work tommorow that will be me working for the next 12 days in a row as we have a special open weekend to allow access for an arts festival. I am in 2 minds about it. I don't have a choice so it's off to work I go. But just aware it's going to be very hard. The only way I find works for me is having a very set routine each day to keep on top of things at home or I'd go mad. With the shifts you do it must be very difficult.
CCL - good luck out there!
NannyG - how lovely for you. And free too!
Apple - sounds like you've got lots of useful things there though and xmas presents too? Try not to feel guilty. You've already done so well on your stretch targets!
Can you CSI the food budget from your account balance?
This morning I've been very lazy really. OH supervised son doing his home work whilst I did general tidying, put a load on.
Then we sat down at the computer together for a while to discuss some financial stuff for the coming year. That felt good as I do tend to do most of it myself.
I haven't done a shop this weekend, only spent about £5 yesterday so it is very much a use it up period.
Husband has now gone to do a small job for our tenant which involved spending £4 on materials.
I have managed to stretch supplies to do son's lunchbox for tommorow and lunch for us now. So that's all good.

nannyg - that sounds just like what you needed, I'm so pleased you got some time away with your friend and it was free
apple - you do so well every month, don't beat yourself that a change in your home life has caused a temporary lack of tracking your spends. I know you'll be back on it asap.
Today should be a SFD as I'm just doing school work at home and then maybe a bit of cleaning. Having a bit of a weird day as I noticed a reclusive neighbour's garden was looking unusually unkept this week and after not having been able to get any reply from them by knocking or posting notes, I called the police this morning. They were very good and came within 30 minutes, broke down the door, but unfortunately found him deceased insideThey can't trace any local friends or family either so I have said I will identify the body later. Poor man.
