Afternoon everyone, I'm joining in again after several failed months! Please can I go down for £500 for September as a starting point? This is for 4 adults, 2 children and a small cat!

I need to up my stocks in preparation for winter (pantry, dry goods, frozen, etc.), so if I aim for an average spend of £100-115 a week, I will have enough for my store cupboard. :)

Off to read the thread for inspiration, thanks for adding me to the list!

    A xo

Starting the month off with a NSD but will be shopping tomorrow morning. Need a few items that we don't buy every week i.e. flour, sugar, dried fruit and laundry powder plus normal shop.
Just cheese on toast for us tonight as we ate out earlier and to be honest we 'pigged out' a bit.

Hiya everyone and a warm welcome to the returners and new peoples :hello:

    Hi All!

Failed miserably on month 1 but it'll take more than one months slip up to knock me down!

Please note everyone that we don't use the *F* word on here, especially after only one month !!

This is a learning curve and an effort to keep our budget to where we would like it to be, whilst being comfortable. It can take a bit of time and practice to get within your budget.

Please read the early posts, tips and don't forget to check the recipes.

The best tools I have learnt from this challenge are
    • meal plan - I do a monthly one
    • shopping list - I keep one in the kitchen and add as I use things
    • batch bake - saves time, money and wastage
    • minimize wastage (use l/os, ends, ood veggies imaginatively)
    • KEEP OUT OF THE SHOPS :rotfl:
Today was an NSD. We had French cheese omelettes and salad for dinner (DH had fried l/o roasties).

Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday

  • 2nd shop of the month done for me tonight. I got a delivery from Tesco, but it's a bit of a nightmare, as a planned £40 shop ballooned to £58!

I've now spent £98 of a planned monthly spend of £150, so I suspect I will be doing a lot of damage limitation for the next three weeks.

At least I now have loads of storecupboard staples, and enough grub to make a large pot of soup (at least 10 bowls there), a vat of curry (4-6 meals there), and a large pot of delish home-made tomato sauce which I eat with almost anything (e.g. Meatballs from the freezer, mixed beans with rice, chicken thighs, mixed veg and pasta).

My resolution for the rest of the month is to eat as much from the freezer as possible, and to top up with 2 small shops. I've got a M&S money off voucher, so I might try to use that to get lots of yellow stickies. M&S is normally far too expensive, but I love the quality and get some really good bargains if I am lucky.

I'm not very mobile at the moment after an op, but I'm hoping to have recovered enough to get to Aldee for a cheapo shop if needed in a couple of weeks.
