Hello - can I join please? Reeling from the cost of the school summer holidays and need food budget to be reined in massively

No idea what was spent in August but the cupboards and freezer are full, so hoping September will be much lighter on my purse!

£350 budget please...Two adults full-time (two teenage step-kids, part-time) two small children, three dogs and six chickens. Sounds almost impossible...:(
  • Well August budget blown so in please with £250 budget for Sept.

Back to normal after the holiday so shouldn't need extra shopping (she says optimistically ... )

I tend to buy if I see a good deal on something I normally use and bulk buy if it's something which will keep etc, so thinking perhaps may be better to work out an annual budget and do it that way next year, does anyone have any thoughts/tips on how best to manage it?

    Thanks.

    Good luck to all.

Like so many others, i am looking forward to the youngest going back to school, the holidays blew my August budget!

So can i please be put down for £250 for September please?

I am going to start adding things to my trolley online shopping with Sainsburys, so that i dont forget anything.
  • Hello

Please could I join. I have no idea how much I spend at present, but will aim for £300 for the month for 1 adult and 2 teenage boys (huge and hungry is how I would describe them). This needs to cover all food and toiletries from now until 30th September.

Thanks for the recipe lists - look very extensive and helpful. I am going to aim for 2 meatless meals per week for two of us - my youngest is a proper meat eater so won't cut his down as he is thin as well, whereas my eldest eats anything tasty veggie or otherwise - doesn't matter what it has in it.:D

Spent £27.23 in Lidl yesterday. Tea today is aubergine and courgette bake for eldest DS and I and chicken curry with rice for youngest DS.

    Good luck everyone.

I don't do strict budgets as such, but I have an aim to spend no more than £250 at the Supermarket each month.

However, this will be averaged out over the entire year. So some months will be less and some months will be more.

But at the end of the year I'll divide the total supermarket shopping by 12 for the monthly figure. If it's at or around £250, then I will have fulfilled my aim.

I'm in the fortunate position of not having to stick to a rigid budget, so I'm not sure how my approach would work for someone who needs to be more careful. I suppose you could monitor the average each month, and if the average was creeping up, you could try for a low spend month to bring the average down again.

But generally, I think it is a good idea to take advantage of offers on things that you use, when you see the offers. There's nothing more annoying of running out of your favourite branded item and having to pay full price for it!

    So far spent £18.81/£100.
I've now got enough food for OHs tea right up until the end of September - think I'll need to buy some more veggies but apart from that I'm done. I've got enough food for me until the 19th. Me and OH eat different meals as I'm so fussy.
trying to use up my masses of food in the freezer!
  • Hi, I'd like to join this month too please. With Christmas, a new baby and our daughter's birthday all coming up in the next few months, I want to really get a handle on the finances. Even my husband is getting on board with it (I've been trying to get him to take an interest for ages!)

My budget this month is £110 and I've just ordered a food shop for £65 which should cover all the meals for the month so will hopefully just top up fresh stuff each week, although husband and I are both bad at going to the shop whenever we fancy a treat.
