I think the OP has gone OTT simply because she was utterly deflated by her friend's lack of thought. She wanted to make a big gesture for her friend -for whatever reason.....and it has fallen flat -The friend is probably a bit shocked and surprised at the OP's reaction too - as it is so extreme.

Hopefully she'll see sense and sell the tickets and the friendship will survive.

Not necessarily with the wedding ours was brought forward drastically and organised in 2 weeks.

Fair enough, but *then* what would you do? That's what differentiates the decent people from the jerks.

I would try and sell the tickets on.. maybe there are some fans out there who would like to go. Depending on who it is, of course. Slightly different trying to shift tickets for the Grateful Dead, compared to Take That, for example :rotfl:

I wouldn't be best pleased with her, though, she's totally unreliable.

Another thing that occurs to me is that weddings are usually (I think?) booked months in advance and guests get a 'keep the date free' card long before they get an invite to the wedding.

Either this wedding is a bit of a shotgun event, or the friend knew about it and forgot. She sounds at best a bit unassertive.

I would be hopping mad if I'd specifically arranged with someone to keep xx/xx/2015 free, and they then pulled a trick like that on me, to be honest.

It is more likely that the OP's friend knew the date. I cannot help but wonder (like some others) if the OP's friend is not such a good friend as she thought.

Booking a wedding from start to finish, within 2 weeks, is extremely rare though. Many places would not be free, the church or register office would be highly unlikely to get you in, you would struggle to arrange flowers, and the food, and to get your outfits sorted. Also, you would NEVER get a photographer in that time, and many people would not be able to come anyway with such short notice.

If for example, a relative of mine said they were getting married 50+ miles from home, a week on Sunday, (or even close to home for that matter,) I wouldn't be going. I would envisage a wedding done in 2 weeks to be a very scanty and basic affair. I'm not saying anyone has to have a lavish and ridiculously expensive wedding, but I can't imagine how anyone could plan (and have) a wedding in 14 days...

Maybe the OP can let us know who the band is...someone here may want to buy them.

Ours was organised in a month. It can easily be done if needs be. We managed to get everything sorted, photographer, flower, dress, DH outfit, food, accommodation etc, and still had days to spare! When we booked it, there was a date available for 2 weeks complete with photographer, food etc.

So if needs be, it can easily be done.

I don't want to go as it's not something I wanted to go anyway but would have went to accompany her.

This I dont get, I bought a friend concert tickets for Christmas to see a band I'm not keen on, bought her two tickets and told her to take whoever she wanted. She took her sister.

Plenty of bands from the mid-late 60s command very high prices for their concert tickets. Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones ..... might be before your time but it doesn't mean that there aren't fans who would pay through the nose to see them perform live.

FYI the Grateful Dead performed their last ever concerts last month, so it isn't them :)

...... and at least they gave us Cherry Garcia flavoured ice cream, which is a far better legacy than Take That. :T

OMG I think I would be very peed off too.

I think the decent thing to do is not charge her (still politely and calmly tell her how you feel though otherwise it'll be an elephant in the room situation everytime you see her) BUT it would also be the decent thing for her to offer some money. I would question her conscience, morals and loyalty if she didn't offer.

If my friend did this to me and not offer something I don't think they would be my friend for very long. Whether I take up or decline the money is a different matter.

Accidents do happen but that is no excuse to just walk away and leave the other person to it, especially if it were a friend.
