There might be someone on here who is a massive fan and would take them off her hands!
It's up to the OP whether she wants to say who the band is or not.
Incidentally if the OP is still reading most tickets do say on them that you can't resell them. That's to put off scalpers from buying them up to resell as their business, not that it does really stop them. If it isn't a huge festival like Glastonbury, where they print your passport photo onto the ticket to ensure it's you turning up, it doesn't matter at all. I have never been asked to prove ID on turning up to a concert, unless collecting the tickets at the same time. Selling them will be fine.

I'm sure selling the tickets will be fine.
In fact, that's why I posted this yesterday, way back on page 2:

A number of posters have suggested selling the tickets. That seems an eminently sensible suggestion.

If this is a one-off gig by a band who split up some time ago, surely there is demand for the tickets?

Yes it is of course up to the OP if he names the band or not, but I for one cannot see the reasoning behind not naming them, very strange IMO.

The OP seems to me to be more hung up on her surprise gift being ruined than anything else, I do not think it has anything to do with how much they cost or she would simply sell on like many other people do when they cannot make an event.

she isnt lacking in attention to detail, a wedding would trump this.
You seem to be really upset because your nice thing failed and the telling her achieved what? Do you feel better having made her feel guilty

I don't think it would, necessarily.

I was unable to go to a relative's Christening because I had a concert that night (which had been booked months before I even knew about the christening). I'm sure it caused a few snidey remarks that I didn't go to the Christening, but I didn't know and I already had something planned for that night.

It could be that the OP doesn't want to tell us who the band is in case it identifies her.

Or the whole story is fictitious.

    One of those two,

Totally up to her. She just might be missing out on a possibly very simple solution if someone here would take them off her hands.

I only mentioned it because the OP said repeatedly she would have to check if they were transferable, in response to pages of everybody advising her to sell. She might not realise that she can sell them regardless of what the small print on the tickets says.

For them it does though. It's a close relative and they live away from their family plus they didn't know about the gig and we're just told to keep the date free.
Still think the op is getting worked up about nothing

Its not like the child will remember the Christening though, Weddings in a lot of cases are a bigger affair (yes, I know in some religions Christenings are hugely important) Fact is that OPs friend does feel they want to attend this wedding above the concert, which is kinda up to the friend when she didn't realise the concert was being booked.

If the friend had known and agreed to the tickets in advance then decided they didn't want to go / would rather go to the wedding, that would be different in my humble opinion.

Surely if the OP's friend was reading this thread, she'd know anyway? More so if OP's username bears any relevance to her own name or where she lives.

Another thing that occurs to me is that weddings are usually (I think?) booked months in advance and guests get a 'keep the date free' card long before they get an invite to the wedding.

Either this wedding is a bit of a shotgun event, or the friend knew about it and forgot. She sounds at best a bit unassertive.

I would be hopping mad if I'd specifically arranged with someone to keep xx/xx/2015 free, and they then pulled a trick like that on me, to be honest.

Fair enough, but *then* what would you do? That's what differentiates the decent people from the jerks.
