Just tried haggling on Messenger. We're on the lowest packages, but the bill is about to go up £120 a year. Was on all day and just got 'we have no offers at the moment'. They gave me a phone number to call but I hate phones. Any suggestions please?

  • Thank you MSE for the advise. Started the day paying £64.50 a month for basic entertainment and movies with Sky+. One 15 minute conversation with the sky and a review of what we actually watch and we are now paying £15.00 a month for 18 months and keep the Sky+

We wanted to get rid of movies, which we did, but also discovered that because we were on an old contract, we had been paying for Kids channels, but it was never shown as an itemised part of our billing. Kids are 23 & 18 now and we haven't watched a kids channel in years!

Almost 80% saving, albeit with an 18 month contract and the potential for at least 1 price hike of up to 10%, but that £49.50 we saved is going to look lovely when I set up the standing order to use it to overpay on our mortgage.

Does your deal include broadband and phone?

  • My sky bill has fluctuated over the years.
The package has always stayed the same: sky+, entertainment pack, broadband.

    £25, £41, £30, £47, £51, £23

Usually when I'm out of contract I call them and it comes back down but last year they wouldn't budge at all wanting £50. I dumped the TV, and stayed with the BB until I found another provider - which I've then just bumbled along with but keep receiving 'come back to sky' offers.

Last week I thought I'd chase it up and they have offered to switch back on sky+, entertainment, fibre and free setup/modem for £38

Any thoughts on that, do we think I can push for more?

That looks like a good price to me for Entertainment and their now fast fibre. BTW, Entertainment only launched in December 2017 so most of those previous prices you were paying for were a different package entirely.

Thanks Colin, maybe it was a different 'entertainment' package - I could be muddled up, but i think it was stuff the 'additional' channels i.e. nothing special, things like discovery / dave / food channel stuff etc.

I think they have 2 fibre speeds, and it doesn't look fantastic in my area - I'll try and push for the higher one.

    Tar for the reply :beer::beer:

  • Hi all

Spent a fruitless afternoon yesterday trying to get a new deal. Best they could offer below:

    18 Month Contract
    Entertainment £22
    HD £1
    Sports Pack £18
    HD £2
    Plus £20 setup fee

When I said this is actually more expensive than their standard 18 month contract they quoted standard rolling contract prices at me. Hopeless!

Said goodbye really quickly and will try again nearer minimum term ending (March).

No, they only have the one fast fibre deal now and people have been bumped up to it from the upto 38Mb one (presuming the exchange can handle it I suppose)
