  • Thought I would share my experience to help others. I have Sky Q (with mini boxes)with all the TV (entertainment, sports, cinema, kids, boxsets) and every year I haggle to get about 50% off. This year half way through my 30 day cancellation I got a fairly good offer via email (£51/month including the multiscreen on 12 month contract), that even when I tried the online chat they wouldn't give me unless I showed them screenprints. I thought if I wait to be disconnected better offers would surely come through.

A couple of days after disconnection I tried and to my surprise the cheapest I could get was the same package for £62! It became clear they had seen my previous offers, and said you should take the good offers as they appear. I tried again a few days later and they were keeping a record of every offer and weren't budging. To make it even worse the offers they'd give would sometimes be for 12 months in an 18 month contract (so the final 6 months would be full price). The chat team would never budge on an offer either, they just pointed to the fact that they could only offer what was on the system, and would tell me I could try and call (which often give me worse offers).

This is totally different to all my previous experiences with sky, who usually give you some decent offers after you see through the disconnection. I was made to feel greedy for turning down the offer I had been emailed.

The problem with Sky Q of course is that you only have 2 months to renegotiate before you have to return your equipment. So I would just warn others that if you think disconnecting will automatically get you a better deal then think again. If you are lucky enough to get a decent deal during your cancellation give it some serious consideration rather than dismissing it automatically.

Your 100 % correct on that as ........

I received a mail shot with a great offer in my cancellation period however on phoning the retention team to take them up on the offer they did not believe the offer I got sent and asked for proof in which I had to send a pic of the offer to a special Sky email address they gave me as evidence and I also managed to haggle for a 2tb Sky Q box with no upgrade or install and Admin fee payable.:)

    Hi

Currently coming up to the end of my 18 month Sky Q + Sky Movies (those 2 only, no internet) , currently £21 a month.

Called them up (only once) and they said they are moving all customers over to £30 a month package as standard for Sky Q + Sky movies.

    Anybody managed to do better?

    Thanks
  • ben166, it is an ok deal. You might want to try and see if you can add HD and Boxsets for £1 each extra on top.

Also make sure your discount is for the whole duration of the contract they sign you up to.

If you have online banking then check your offers. I logged onto Halifax Internet banking and have seen this cashback offer :

Earn £50 Cashback when you join or recontract with Sky TV and pay by Direct Debit. Offer expires 05/10/2018. Cashback will be paid at the end of the following month after your 2nd Direct Debit payment. You must have made your first Direct Debit payment between 09/08/2018 - 23/11/2018 to qualify for cashback. Offer valid once per customer only.

I might take them up on their half price offer and get this £50 cashback to knock a bit more off.

Mines on an 18 month rolling contract @ 50% although this was last December(?)
  • Please can I ask, when you contact Sky to negotiate a new deal do you tell them you are leaving and give notice and then wait for them to contact you, see if you can get a new deal there and then or do you just ring and say you are nearing the end of your contract, you would like to stay what offers are available and if its not any good try again on another day?

    We currently have:
    Original TV discounted to 14.10
    Sky Q multi screen 12.00
    Line rental free
    Sky Fibre Unlimited 20.00
    Talk anytime extra 8.00 £54.10

This is increasing to £77.03 next month then a bit more in November.

    Thank you

A bit of both really, try the softly softly approach first to test the waters and if you can't get something that you're happy with (don't stress trying to match someone else's offer on here) then schedule a cancellation for the TV only. Don't forget to check on prices from other companies before you phone and be prepared to contact them multiple times.
  • Thank you for replying. Would you put a cancellation in after the first call? or wait if you need to call them a few times. Would I have to make a separate call about the phone/broadband?

Will check Virgin and Now TV prices, thanks
