  • I was offered 40% too on tv package after lot of trying. I have been with sky for almost 5 years. I was offered 50% few weeks ago, declined and now they won’t even give me 50%. So considering that 40% May not be bad deal but I have seen people given better offers. I would have declined though.

    Hello everyone ..

Joined sky TV last year with a box set package , at 50% and a £25 MasterCard .
Completely forgot and the price will double tomorrow , spoke to someone and she offered 40% off ..tried doing a web chat ..only to be told it was not his department . He says there is no web chat facility available to me to discus reviews .
Called again this evening and was told by the advisor that he was shocked I was even offered 40% as that was a heavy discount .

Coincidentally our Broadband has been with sky too for 8 years but is a gift so I cannot package them together and they don't seem to be giving any loyalty points for it.
Is this the best offer I could get ?
    Thanks in advance.

Hi guys I have only recently found this forum although I have been a Sky TV customer for well over 15 years now. I have often tried to do a bit of haggling myself (and am currently on an 50% off original offer) but I do admire everyone on here for their persistence and I was looking for some advice..

I contacted Sky today since over the boxing day and black friday period I noticed a few really strong offers on movies and entertainment through NOW TV which is obviously owned by Sky. They did my nut slightly since I realised that the full price NOW TV entertainment costs just £9.99 (without offers which often halve this in price) and includes pretty much the best entertainment channels from the original bundle. And this is for 'casual' customers (premise of NOW TV) who give no loyalty or commitment and aren't tied into any contract.

So I mentioned this to them today and in as many words they effectively said Sky TV is unique, offers many more channels, catch up etc. and just mentioned all the bells and whistles. But I persisted and mentioned that I was seeking better value or a larger discount on my bill (which is original £11 (50% off which was on a 12 month contract back from last August), plus £12 for multiscreen)

Anyway, I mentioned that I am a fan of sport and they originally offered me sports for a monthly cost of £20. I embarrassed them somewhat by mentioning that they had actually sent me a better offer than that in the post just a few days ago (full sports for £15 a month fixed for 36 months minimum without contract which admittedly I think is a strong deal). They apologised and then offered this option, so I'm contracted with 50% off original till Aug 2018 and can keep sports at £15 indefinitely.

I then mentioned that I've been settling for SD sports and entertainment for ages now even though I have HD TVs which I genuinely feel is a real shame. They came back to me and said the best thing they can do is discount HD Sports package by £4 a month which brings it down to £2 a month. They also said that if I take this HD Sports discount, I will be tied into another 18 month contract (separate from my 50% off Original bundle contract ending Aug 18). This means that my package is £40/month (is this good value? - remember, includes £12/month for multiroom) until Aug 18 when the 50% off original bundle expires and then goes up by £11/month. I have accepted the offer for now but I am in the cooling off period obviously.

I wanted to ask you guys if it is a mistake to take the Sports HD and tie myself into a separate 18 month contract as there is no way I would be happy to pay the full £22 for original which is essentially glorified freeview when August 2018 comes round. Will I have any leg to stand on in terms of haggling down my original package back to the 50% off it is at the moment in August next year when it reverts to full price? (Since the HD which ties me into a contract lasting far longer than the expiry of my 50% offer so they'll know that I'll be forced to stay no matter what they offer). I tried to ask them to honour the 50% off original until the end of my HD Sports offer which would prevent such a situation from happening but she said it couldn't be done until I was at least 60 days from the end of my current contract... again not sure about this if I'm just recontracting?

All very confusing I'm sorry - hope what I'm saying makes sense. Please also let me know if this seems like good value for what I am getting - I do really value your opinions!

Whats the best Sky Q offer anyone has got? Especially after a move from the old Sky HD box to Sky Q?

Doesn't matter if it's the initial contract or re-contracting as far as I'm aware, it's a contract either way.

As to whether it's good value only you can really determine that. You're getting full sports (minus F1 maybe?) for £15 a month for 3 years (never heard of that before) but new customers are paying £20 for the Entertainment pack (more TV channels than you get) plus they can add Sports at £20 a month plus another £6 for HD so £46 total and if you wanted multiroom yet another £12 which comes to £58 a month. Obviously they'd have a Qbox and Mini box as well.

Considering the tie in with BT just announced the landscape may change again in the new year anyway. Of course once Sky put their prices up (inevitably) you can go through the entire process once more :)

One thought I had is do you need multiroom? Could you have a Now TV box in one room and just the one Sky box in the other?

I think it's pretty much the same as new customers (£20 for Entertainment) but they'll try and charge you £199 for either box and no doubt try and charge for installation.

S-I-L has just got Sky Q for same discounted price (50% off) as he was paying for HD plus multiroom BUT had to pay extra £50 for Q kit up front.

I don't know how they can justify the £199 charge for Sky Q. It wasn't that long ago that Sky were giving decoders away free and providing free installation.

Now they want a payment for installation of rented equipment which must be returned on cancellation!

Thanks for your reply! What I meant by the contract thing was that surely if I'm already in a contract for 50% off original ending Aug 18 I should be able to re-contract again to include them honouring the 50% off for the new duration no matter how far I am away from the end of the existing one?

Multiroom is important for when my boys are home from uni since they are the main watchers of the sports in the secondary room which is basically why I have multiroom - they watch it ALL the time!! I suppose I could keep cancelling and reinstating multiroom every time they come home for an extended period but then the fees (though I would try and claim any for 'admin') and bill adjustments associated with changing package probably wouldn't mean it's that viable?

They won't entertain discussion of an extension to your existing discount while you are still so far away from the end of the minimum term. What makes you think they will continue to offer 50% off from August 2018?

In addition, if you accept a new eighteen month contract for HD Sport, you will be unable to cancel (or haggle) after your 50% offer ends in August.
