Geez, it's amazing how quick people are to condemn on the basis of knowing nothing about it.

I too am a motorcyclist but that doesn't mean that I suspend all reason and logic to automatically subscribe to the view "two wheels good, four wheels bad". I've seen motorcyclists do all manner of utterly stupid and dangerous things (indeed I did quite a few myself when I was young and immortal).

We don't know any details of the circumstances here. If the OP was turning right (as he is surely entitled to do if there's a right turn there?) and a motorcyclist who was hidden from view by a bend or corner then came round that bend or corner and was able to brake before there was a collision then no-one was at fault: the OP was entitled to turn right, and the motorcyclist was travelling at such a speed that he was able to brake and avoid a collision with the unexpected obstruction.

Is that what happened? I dunno, and nor does anyone else here except the OP.

The only thing that is clear is that the biker was very much at fault in his subsequent criminal behaviour.

  • if the motorcyclist was so aggrieved that he followed the OP , and vented his frustration , about almost being killed by a motorist that had not assessed the road and traffic whilst doing a manoeuvre , then I would not blame him.

people in "cages" just use verbal and hand signals , however a motorcyclist is often in the position to talk to the driver "face to face".

the motorcyclist would not have changed his journey , and gone onto a side road to follow the OP , if this had been a minor problem

The motorcyclist's subsequent behaviour proves nothing except that he is a f***wit. The fact that he is a f***wit proves nothing about the circumstances of the original incident.

That is one of the stupidest of the very many stupid things you say on these fora.

  • ok , get off your high horse , the OP pulled across the path of an oncoming vehicle .

did he or did he not

    yes or no?

Who appointed you as the prosecuting counsel?

The OP was turning right, we know that. The question is, given the road configuration, was the oncoming motorcyclist visible when the OP began his manoeuvre? I've no idea, and nor do you.

If you are suggesting that no-one should turn right unless they are absolutely certain that nothing is approaching around the next bend, where they can't see, then an awful lot of people are going to be sitting in the middle of an awful lot of roads with their indicators flashing until they die of old age.

The accident was real and in Sweden. It was later claimed it was caused by mobile phone use which was false.

Have you never encountered a junction close to a bend?.
  • I have not set myself up as prosecuting counsel , and regarding turning right without being certain that there are no oncoming vehicles , good question , do you pull flick a coin and then just pull across?

you are correct , the OP has not confirmed the location of the side road , or indeed returned to answer the question of what the speed limit was , although , being a skilled person and seeing a thin object coming towards him , he was quick enough to say he was speeding?

its one of the hardest things to work out , the speed of a oncoming vehicle (straight ahead) .

the OP was aggrieved that the motorcyclist STOPPED , turned down a side road , caught up with the OP to state he was not happy with the motorists road use , the OP has not said if he wound his window down , or even got out of the car , or indeed gave verbal's to the motorcyclist.

maybe it was wrong for the motorcyclist to retaliate on the OPs car , we are only hearing one side of the story .

maybe if the OP had said" I pulled across the path of an oncoming motorcyclist , causing him to lock up , and drove off , he followed me , I cowered in my car (on my phone) and he broke my door mirror"

two sides to a story , and I still doubt very much if the motorcyclist would have turned off and followed the OP if it had been a minor incident.
  • maybe the OP forgot to tell us all he had a 24ft caravan on the back of his car
