Motorbiker punched off my wing mirror deliberately - What can I do?

Hi,

Short story is that I was turning right in my car and a motorcyclist came round the corner as I was turning. He was obviously going too fast and had to break heavily. He then followed me, stop next to my car and deliberately punched off my car wing mirror and drove off.

I managed to get a photo of him and the bikes licence plate. Also a pedestrian witness gave me their details and said they would be a witness for the police if needed. I then took photos of the damage he caused (the wing mirror is hanging off and the electronics in it do not work any more).

I've reported the crime and told my insurance company.

Any ideas of what's the best thing to do with this? What's the odds of getting the money back for the costs of the repair?

  • Given the independent witness, I would say you have a pretty good chance of claiming off his insurance. Not sure the cops well do much though.

  • Under the circs i would leave it to your insurer, hopefully you have got the legal cover in place to pursue for any loss of no claims.

No i wouldn't expect anything from the old bill either, did they manage to stir themselves up enough to find a crime number for you.
  • What an a-hole. Well done for getting the witness. I hope that pillock gets what's coming to him.

Do your pics actually show him knocking the mirror off?
  • so you dove over the centre line , and a bike was coming the opposite way , are you a skilled police operative , fit to gauge his speed?

you have omitted to state what the speed limit was on that road ,

Even if the OP wasn't looking and pulled into the path of the bike, completely at fault, while doing her makeup and talking on her mobile phone, that's no excuse for the biker's aggressive and criminal behaviour.
  • having had the same thing happen to me whilst driving a motorcycle , I would say the OP has got off lightly

wonder if the motorcyclist had a cam on his bike , and at this moment in time is filing a police report , for the OP driving without due care and attention

the OP was probably thinking over cracked plaster in his mind , he definatly did not have his radar turned on

Will his insurance cover a criminal damage?

Intentional acts are normally excluded but a small claim has a good chance of just being paid

OP, next time you turn across oncoming traffic, do the decent thing and wind your window down when you stop, thus allowing the biker to punch you in the mouth instead. This way both parties will be happy; the biker because he's just chinned the * that nearly killed him, and you because your wing mirror will be intact. :money:
