Fraudulant activity on my bank account
Comments
-
Just been speaking to A&L Fraud dept. They called me as there had been a bunch of suspicious (sp?) transactions on my account which add up to around £1500 in the past few days, all online, a few large amounts (incl a refused £900 charge today) and even a payment of £40 to McAffee!
Cards are now cancelled, and we're getting new ones. Apparently abut it's all very worrying! Will be going to the branch tomorrow to watch them destroy them and bask in their nonchalance.
The transactions don't show up on my internet banking and, when I searched the A&L fraud number online and came up with some other website (put in "0845 300 3440" and see what you get. I phoned A&L back on a more familiar number and they confirmed the details I was told on the phone so it seems kosher but a tad disconcerting all the same.Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though0 -
hi ,the same day shopped on tesco for grocery's and travel money camberley are the same phone no as tescos travel services i called them they cant find the transaction on the same day so very strange !!!The.Real.Me wrote: »Out of interest, what was the last thing you used your card for BEFORE the theft? I made a transaction the day before my details were compromised and am really suspicious that someone at this company may be my thief.

From the info I have found out from sites such as this one, the fraud department tend to not do a lot about it, everytime I have phoned they just keep telling me to wait for the forms to arrive, these arrived this morning, but they didn't send an up to date bank statement so I have now had to order one and wait for this to arrive.
On looking at the forms, they do say that if they havent heard back from me within 10 days they will assume that I have recognised the payments and decided not to proceed, they will then remove it from their claims, the forms will be going back the same day I receive the bank statment by special delivery.

My Wife has just been into the bank to get them to give her a full printed statement over the counter, the clerk pointed out we were up to our overdraft limit and knew nothing of our problem! We have refused to transfer any money into the account at the moment for the fear of losing that too.
Anyways, there are 5 fraudulant withdrawals on my account, the first was for 'Stagecoach serv' the second and third were mobile phone top ups, the fourth was Travel Money Camberley and the final one (which was pending when I first spoke to the fraud department, but could not be stopped) was for Comet Clearance.
No other transactions have gone out since my card was cancelled.
Does anyone know if it would be worth my while phoning comet clearance as this is probably my best lead with the transactions taken, will they give me a delivery address if I ask?

Let the bank/police deal with it, you should get a form in the next few days to sign that it definitely wasn't you who spent the money. Must be the day for it as I've just spoken to my bank due to fraudulent activity!0

Mine was only £5 but glad they checked because it might have been a tester then take a huge amount. No cards for 5-7 days but they arrange with local post office for me to get some cash.
Last year £2000 was taken from our account, I'd rather they check for unusual things though!0 -
I cant believe this thread-thank you. I have just returned from a weeks holiday to a message from my bank to contact them-about £10,000 has been used on my mortgage account which is one where current and mortgage accounts are together. My transactions are also to the above named companies and tescomobile and even for mortgage payments!!!!!!!!!! It is now in the hands of the fraud dept who will send me the appropriate forms. I find it very strange that all the transactions have been when Ive been out of the country as if they knew!!!! if anyone wants to pm me please do so to discuss where they last used their cards. Again my cards have been comprimised over the internet as I still have the card in my possession. I am reporting mine to the police tomorrow.

Earlier this evening I looked up my lloydstsb internet banking site
and found a transaction for c£750 also for TRVL MONEY CAMBERLEY, dated 2 days ago.
I phoned the bank and got my card stopped.
I was advised to phone the fraud department in the morning and explain the transaction. I also have a £300 transaction pending. I'll let you know how i get on.
I googled the name TRVL MONEY CAMBERLEY and got this thread.
I also have my card in my possession and I'm the only one who knows my PIN.
Having looked right back through my transactions there was a small transaction for Stagecoach for £1.50 about 5 weeks ago, which I didn't make.
I used to work in a bank, and understand these are the tester transactions, probably for a single train ticket from a ticket machine, where the value is so low that a pin number isn't asked for...
This was soon after I had paid for a couple of hotels using my card.
One in Essex and one in Birmingham.
Also to pay for some contact lens bought over the internet. Did anyone else make similar transactions before the fraud transactions?
i hope everyone who has been effected gets their money back.0 -
The suggestion put to my wife yesterday at our bank was to open another account with them, with no overdraft facilities at all and to only keep a very small amount of money in it.
The idea apparently is to use this for internet transactions and just transfer cash in when you are making a transaction, has anyone done this?
Strangely, just before Christmas last year, I had to buy £500 worth of golfing gift vouchers for a collegue at work who was retiring, I purchased them ok, but a few minutes later, we were in another shop and my wife bought a top which I paid for, it was around £20 from memory, when we tried to pay, it flagged up for the store to phone the bank.
This took around half an hour and also resulted in both myself and the store manager having to speak to the bank and they asked me all sorts of security questions.
When I asked why this had happened, they said it was some new security they had bought in and the £500 purchase had 'flagged' my account as possible suspicious activity.
Now my question is, why did this not happen this time before they took £2500 from me?
