Having been stung on two accounts (Coop business a/c and on Friday my MnS c/card a/c) I'm wondering whether the little handheld code generator is being used yet. It was on one of the TV progs, possibly Working Lunch? a couple of the banks were about to issue them. Would they stop this sort of scam?
I tried to get the Coop to refuse any mobile phone company payments, or any payments below £10, no can do.
As for MnS, foreign call centre, say no more. That said, they did flag-up the 'tester' transaction of £1 to an online bingo, so I stopped the card, but there's a £30 phone topup appeared over the weekend..... and it's O2 again!.

If you've used your debit or credit cards at petrol Stations in Ashford Kent before 5 Oct 2007, then check your statements.
Story from the BBC click here.
Here's a victims tale from the BBC click here.
Then you may not get your money back at all. BBC Video (Citizens Advice input 1.55 secs into video).

just spotted this in 'thisismoney.co.uk'
A fraud expert at Cambridge University, Prof Ross Anderson, says there are various ways a Pin can be extracted from a chip and Pin card, but the 'Yescard' scam is the most widely used.
He said: 'Your Pin is stored in the chip. It's supposedly protected by logic that limits the number of attempts you can make to guess it. However, there have been repeated reports from credible witnesses of cards being used when the Pin could not have been compromised.
'One possible modus operandi is the Yescard; a card to which you copy the details from a stolen card, but that will accept any Pin. These have been used in France and I've suspected for some time that they have been introduced in the UK.
'There have been more technical tricks in the past to extract Pins from cards, but the Yescard is generally a more plausible hypothesis.'0 -
Because I was bankrupt , I only have the prepay debit card from splash plastic , which is not linked to any bank account , you load it at any paypoint and can only spend what you have loaded on to the card. If any of you are now(quite understandably) twitchy about online and phone transactions then maybe think about getting one of these for just that purpose?
Just been talking to someone about this this thread and they seemed to remember seeing something somewhere about chip n pin versus signing type cards . They vaguely recollected that if you insisted your bank kept you on the old fashioned sign for type transaction cards , you could claim your money back if fraud was committed using your card . However if you have the chip n pin cards , something in the terms and conditions , can be used by the bank to get out of paying you . I am sure there must be someone on here who knows more about this.
I hope all of you get you dosh back from the banks .Started my own business and loving being my own boss

Hi all I noticed the other day that orange ad taken £279 from my account I phoned them as I had just received a contract phone for them after being on the phone for an hour they told me it was for acessories which i didnt know anything about. Then they said payment had failed but the system must have tried again. Then today they called and informed me someone had used my card fradulantly. I logged on to internet banking and the fraudsters have taken a further total of over £600 in one transaction putting me £100 into unauthorised overdraft. I contacted the bank and they cannot do anything until i fill in the forms. But what angered me is how they passed a payment for over £600 putting me in the red. There is another sum of £280 that i dont know anything about so these people have taken £1000 + . I bank with Barclays and the only payment i know is orange as others are pending. I have used tesco but not or a few months i have used a few new websites game.co.uk and a few other new ones recently so it must be one of these. However due to the holidays with Xmas and new year I dunno when i will get my new card or the forms. Orange have an address is there anyway I can get this info?0

If only we could find out exactly where the fraudulent transactions in the name of "TRVL MONEY CAMBERLEY" (and the other ones) came from....
I'd sure like to pay them a visit, perhaps with a can of petrol and a match.

Hi everyone! I have an old current account with Abbey which I no longer use and opted out of having my monthly details sent by mail. It is a graduate account with very low interest and has a limit of £500. I was alarmed to recieve several emails notifying me that charges were due to be charged to my account for going over my overdraft limit.
I asked for my accounts to be delivered again, when recieved i noticed there were several payments between £25 and £30 to websites I've never heard of. When researching them I found they were online merchants, similar to PayPal where payments had been made. (bluemedia-help.com, epoch.com to name a few).
Then there were payments made every day of random figures between 0.60p and £4.
The bank cancelled my card - excellent and said they would investigate.
I have just receieved a letter which says that all of the payments will unfortunately not be refunded, as they were over 60 days ago. Is this legal??? The payments were made abroad, and I haven't been abroad since last August. Surely the fault lies with Abbey for clearing these international payments in the first place.
On top of this the bank have charged me £25 several times for exceeding the overdraft and these charges have not been withdrawn either.
Please can anyone advise me on my rights and what I should do.
Many Thanks0
