I used to be addicted to mse and finally realised the total of all the hours wasted online, so I went silent and stopped browsing. I came back lately and already see creeping mse itis is affecting me. Its a bit like chocolate and a habit but one that I will make an effort to stop. All those hours when I could be outdoors or spinning, reading, sewing, knitting, wood carving, talking to neighbours etc etc. So much productive time wasted, on what? Yes I know, the internet family and `companionship`
Tbh I do see the same posters time after time, just wondering if they see this time as wasted or productive in as feeling valued by a wider community
Anyway, I know I am killing time now, waiting for a delivery but I could be killing time by doing something around my house, or finishing making a pair of socks. See what I mean? It takes effort to leave but I am going to restrict myself to a short time in the evening, if at all
Your honest views on MSE itis:)

I enjoy popping in through the day to see what is happening and how my online friends are doing. It is part of my day. There are times when I browse more than usual however that is through choice and usually on a day when life is quiet.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

I am relatively new to MSE compared to you. I don't post in any other forum or social media, other than MSE. The information here has been so valuable and actually saved me money over the year. I don't consider it as time wasted. It is actually saving me time wasted on searching information online elsewhere. When I gain so much I feel obligated to give back in any way I can.
Don't feel addicted and forced to take part. I hardly read anything over the weekend as I don't get the time, but weekdays and lunch breaks, always take a sneak peak.SPC 08 - #452 - £415

I log on most days and have made many friends here, some of whom I have been privileged to meet in person, I joined at a very low spot mentally, so think of MSE as a lifeline.
MSE has also been the push to sort my finances....I dont have a larger income now, but feel much more wealthy as I know where all my few euro are and what I have bought, mostly only things I need.
So, thank you MSE and my friends online.

I'm 48 but I have arthritis so most house jobs go 15-30 minutes then a 10 minute break and so on.... MSE has saved me a fortune over the years as I no longer buy magazines as I fill my 10 minutes rests with reading the forums instead. My nana died when I was 14 and my mum died when I was 21 so I have been able to brush up on things I learned when I was small but had forgotten and educate myself that bit more as a bonus.
I appreciate the people who take the time to pass on their knowledge. As a widow with a small child I also appreciated that of an evening there was always something to read to make me think and maybe some other adults to chat to. That has changed now my son is older - we can go out more and stay out later but it's reassuring knowing that the endless fount of knowledge and sometimes common sense is there in the background. I don't obsess though. If a few days go by before I manage to get online and read the OS daily I don't panic.
Some evenings I'm too tired and sore to do anything creative. They're the times I would have just sat and chatted to the late MrC if he was still with us I suppose. The only thing I watch on tv is the Great British Bake Off when it's on so an hour or two spent online of an evening isn't the end of the world. I usually have a chat window open with my sister who lives in another country too, so the laptop does double duty then. We don't talk all evening, just snippets here and there, but after years of it being too expensive to phone her for more than 10 minutes at a time it's an absolute joy to be able to do it.0 -
This is the only Forum I read and post on as well.
I have made so many good friends on here and have learned so much. If I want to have a moan, that's fine, nobody judges me, and sometimes it is easier to talk to someone other than face to face.
I log on each day to find out what my friends are up to and to exchange news. I know if I was still working I wouldn't have the time, but I am retired now and enjoying every minute.

Cranky
I am so pleased you can now contact your sister more easily.
At the moment this place is a lifeline as a lot of life changing events have and are happening but in the past it has provided advice, cooking tips, bargains, freebies and friendship."This site is addictive!"
