Just 2 ? :rotfl:
I don't go on there often, there's always some argument or fighting going on, and people getting warnings or even banned.
Old Style is good :T , and also the Health Board and the Relationships boards. I may pop over and have a look at the crafting board, too. I really want to get back into sewing and knitting.left the forum due to trolling/other nonsense

I wouldn't do without my iPhone: firstly I can FaceTime and see them easily, secondly I can text for free using iMessage.
Strangely, it's one of the things I learned from MSE, which has saved me pounds over the years since I retired.
Fwiw, Mr LW does have a smartphone, and can't get on with it at all - I've lost track of how many calls he's missed because the swipe-the-screen thingy doesn't work right for him.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
There's something about that swiping motion which just makes me want to giggle whenever I see it done, don't know why.
I have a Nokia which looks like a dumbphone but is actually a smartphone. Or it would be if I bothered to use it as such. Since I've not the slightest interest in using it to access the internet or to take pix, I haven't bothered my little head with that part of the instructions.
I just use it to send texts and the occasional call, my landline does all the heavy lifting in my telecoms world.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Horses for courses indeed re phones. Mine is just a bog-standard very basic very simple mobile phone and kept for emergencies only.
There are times when I think it would be handy to be able to take a photo with my phone (but cant because of it being a basic one) - but, on the other hand, I presume ones as basic as mine cant be hacked into. That being the case - I'll leave things as is....and I only top it up with £10 credit once or twice a year.
Like GQ - I expect to use my landline for all my phonecalls (and have duly got one of these 24/7 inclusive phonecalls tariffs).
I have a friend here that is a great texter from her fancier phone - but we manage between her usually texting me and me always replying by email.

Re "thinking positive" - I certainly believe in prepping for all (reasonable) eventualities. Any eventuality that might come up that doesn't come under my definition of "reasonable" - well my personal viewpoint is to regard that as "negative thinking" and so I don't do so. If I've done my bit to ensure I'm clear of mortgage and debt/got some savings/growing some food/take reasonable care of my health/got my insurance cover and know my legal rights generally pretty well - then that's it and I've done all the prepping I personally regard as "reasonable". Each to their own on that - but that's where I personally "draw the line".0 -
It is all about me not giving in to a 67 year old body. No worries about my mind as it is still on top form, flitting here there and everywhere
I have a bowl of turkey casserole to get through today plus loads of veg from the allotment, so did the paleo thing and ate the casserole for breakfast. Not only was the casserole tasteless but I forced every mouthful down. I think it is the leeks and carrots that made the casserole tasteless but I am glad it has now all been eaten. I have gone right off turkey. I am going to have a large plate of steamed veg for lunch, all fresh off the allotment, I`ll enjoy that. Hopefully I won`t feel like nibbling today, porridge just does not stop me being hungry and I delved into a pack of biscuits for visitors. Grhhh
I am one of the low stomach acid people who doesn`t digest meat quickly and eating meat afternoon/evening means I wake up with stomach discomfort. Thought I would try eating meat early and see.
Anyway, looks like yet another beautiful warm and sunny day so have put all the lines up, two long winter lines plus my rotary line. Masses of washing to be done today, sheets, towels, bath mats etc etc. Got two lots out already. I`ll be doing a mad scramble to get it all in if ploughing starts near me today, the dust rises in big clouds
Nothing special on my to do list today, maybe wrapping grandchildren presents up for birthdays. Maybe a bit more kitchen emptying. Reading on my zero gravity chair and what a lovely treat that is, takes the weight off my back lovely
and a lovely g&t this afternoon. Bliss0 -

Kittie, I hope your thread on Over 50s has been some help and comfort to you. I have read, and thanked, many of your detailed posts. You're certainly keeping busy.
Re the phone thing.
Up until a couple of weeks ago I had a very old, basic phone, and thought that I had no need of a smart phone.
However, this old phone was getting to the point where it wouldn't hold it's charge for very long.
Even as long ago as 12 months, the battery was getting flat remarkably quickly - which was a bit perplexing when I needed a reliable phone at Munich Airport, to stay in contact with BA as my suitcase had gone AWOL.
Anyway, I finally bit the bullet a couple of weeks ago, and got myself an IPhone. Not the most recent one, but a 5c with 8gb storage capacity. I got the iPhone as I already had an iPad, and have bought music from the Apple Store.
I got myself a decent data allowance, as I didn't want to be afraid to use it, and unlimited calls on 01 02 and 03 numbers, plus unlimited texts.
To be honest with you, I'm delighted with it. I make nearly all phone calls on it, the camera is excellent and I use it a lot on days out ( I love how it records the location of the photo), texting is so much easier, I play music in my car by bluetooth, I've found out info on the go, which I'd forget to look up by the time I got home and Google Maps has suggested new walking routes for me. I now wish I'd got one with a bigger capacity
I never use Twitter or Facebook, but I'm amazing how useful the phone has been - all this from someone who thought she didn't need a smartphone. Plus I've got the reassurance of a phone that won't have a flat battery when I need it.
I think people would be surprised at how helpful a smartphone is - I certainly wouldn't go back to my old phoneEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Am trying this protein breakfast thing instead of porridge. Was good yesterday, didn`t have the urge to nibble all day. Scrambled eggs and beans this morning, no toast, `i`ll see how long it lasts, I do love crispy toast and marmalade with hm half rye bread. Early coffee in a mo as I don`t want to waste the day by hanging around
Have decided to get out today to an NT property with what looks like a lovely garden. Not far to drive and has a tearoom, then sainsburys on the way home, cherries are a must for me, I cannot get enough of them while in season. Dvd and that g&t that I didn`t have yesterday to look forward to, late afternoon
Loads of washing done yesterday, all ironed and put away by 5. I even ironed my lovely white cotton sheets. Lots of rest yesterday too, reading was the main recreation. I do like silence, am happy with silence, thoughts and birdsong and sometimes my cds and the radio. Am lucky here as it is so peaceful and I am quite content
Horses for courses re phones. I am happy with my old samsung payg, the battery lasts for ages as I don`t use it, except for the occasional text. I don`t need anything else0 -
Good morning, I don't know about 'creeping' MSE itis, I seem to have welcomed MSEness into life with open arms. It's made our lives so much fuller and more interesting to be embracing the economies in life and doing as much for ourselves as we can that it's stopped us from feeling the ageing process as much as our peers. It's noticeable that people we know who are 10 years younger than us (we are 67(me) and 70 ( He Who Knows) seem to be becoming much more sedentary and cautious in their outlook, hear them saying 'well, at my age I shouldn't etc' whilst we just get on a do what needs doing particularly on the garden plots but in the rest of life as well. We aren't quite as fast doing tasks as we were 30 years ago but we still get them done and although we are tired at the end of the day it's no more that we always have been. It's a good life and one I hope will continue for as long as we have life for.
He Who Knows has a smart phone and that's nice for him because the family can send photos to it but mine is as basic as you can get because that's all I need. I can make and take calls and texts, anything else would be unecessary, the only other function I utilise is an alarm set to remind me to take my lunchtime tablet, I'm not technical in any way. Both our girls live some distance away from us and the mobile is wonderful for keeping in touch as we spend so much time outside away from the landline phone and they can reach us when then need to wherever we are.0 -
I hate people who say "oh you shouldn't be doing that at your age" etc - I can do whatever the utter hell I like at whatever age I am. It's my life and none of their business. Conversely I don't poke my nose into their lives, what other people think is none of my business and I don't waste energy on it0

March on into older age with us Sister!!! Nothing's fallen off yet and if it does, we've got glue!!!0
