Anyone else not have a singing dancing mobile phone? I have an old cheap payg for emergencies. don`t use twitter, fb or any of that stuff. Only the laptop and that alone is pretty energy sapping (Kittie)
Funny you should ask this Kittie, last night a friend gave me her 'old' phone which she thought that I might like ' as I only have an old payg one.' I didn't like to look ungrateful as she obviously meant well but my 'old one' fits in my pocket easily (it's one of those clam type which doesn't scratch when I have my keys or soil in there too..don't ask!) and is a PHONE. That's all that I need with me if I'm walking or gardening. Maybe I'll charge it up and have a look at it later but no doubt that will eat up even more time when I could have been doing something useful... )The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

Please and Thank You are the magic words;)0 -
I have a mobile as well but don't do the all bells and whistle type at all Just don't have the time. Mine gives me 100 minutes phone calls and unlimited texting which at £11.22 a month is excellent value as most of my DGS seem to keep in touch by texting anyway.I doubt I have used ever more than 30 minutes a month in phone calls and my land line is rarely used for outgoing calls. Both my Dds have Iphones and seem to be at the beck and call of them, everytime it bleeps they have to look at it.I can't be bothered with it at all. I use my phone for what is needed and nothing else, mine is about 4 years old and by their standards antique
:):) but it suits me and I shan't change it
Come on here usually first thing in the morning and sometimes last thing at night but during the day I am usually out and about so don't have the time .DGS Danny wants me to replace my desk-top with a lap-top but I prefer my old creaking upstairs computer which I have had for a looong time:):) Plus if I had one downstairs I maybe would use it too much whereas having to go upstairs to my study (back box room ) means I get to keep all my stuff in one place and my sitting room a lot tidier

I have an ancient "dumbphone" (as opposed to a smartphone):D I only use it for calls and texts - Mr LW calls me a couple of times a day from work to make sure I'm ok, and the dog-sitting franchisee calls me to book dogs in and that's about it!
I'm a bit concerned that when it eventually gives up the ghost, I won't be able to replace it with anything other than a wretched smartphone.
Btw, JackieO, mine's 9 years old.:p
I do like my laptop, as I can have it on a tray on my lap while I lie on the sofa if my back's playing up - sitting up at the pc for any length of time causes me a lot of pain.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Delurking again to say that without Oldstyle I would probably have lost my sanity by now. I rarely post, but read early morning and teatime.
I had to give up a very lively job to take in my elderly parents. My father has passed on now, but I still have my Mum to look after 24/7. Due to the natural constraints from this I have little interaction with people in RL ( I do have some).
I find reading the forums helps settle my mind, gives me loads of useful tips and have laughed and cried with people when things go wrong/right. Several posters I like to read are highly intelligent and well informed and I would miss their input.
I don't suppose most people realise I am here. That suits me, I'm not particularly sociable anyway, but it gives me a lifeline to the world outside my own particular circumstances with which I fight off depression and cheer myself up.
I'd also like to take this delurking opportunity to thank those of you who keep me informed, entertained and thoughtful.

jamanda Hi honey now you've taken the plunge ,don't be a stranger we are all fairly friendly on here.
Back in 2008 when I was going through nasty chemo, and feeling awful, I would often come on during the night and just natter away to someone, there are always somebody who like me couldn't sleep very well.just that friendly virtual voice when your feeling low helps no end .

I second what jackieo says, welcome jamanda. In your shoes I would be browsing lots and lots, we all wear different shoes so no-one judges anyone else
I had an uber quick browse earlier on the winter thread, interesting to see how others also feel that autumn is around the corner. Now I am drinking a g and t, 5 days since the last one, so am being good. Would be easy to overdo it since being on my own but strong mind over matter. I actually found out how much gin in one unit and it is 25 ml, whoops, no wonder the last two times it went to my knees. I bought fever tree tonic which I kept in the fridge, so have a one unit gorgeous drink by my elbow. mmm, makes me think of that aldi advert
Also been watching the agatha christie short story on drama at 8. Very old fashioned, slow and grainy but I have been thoroughly enjoying them. Will watch it tonight and do catch up with the bake off programme, maybe tomorrow
I am so sad about the people let down by kids company, surely someone should step in and take it over. Her ideas were great but shes probably not kept her books in order. Anyway, tata for now. Hope you all sleep well0 -
I too not on facebook etc...!!!!!!!!!!! how my friends recoil in disgust when they found out lol, to be honest I can just about post on here as my computer skills are pathetic, copy and paste!!!!!!!!!!!!! Coffee time :T
Been out already and delivered more nice goodies to the cs and also `bravely` told off an aggressive left turning car driver, honking loudly at a mobility scooter that did cross a side road too quickly but hey the car was still on the main road and about to turn left. Prat in car said, `I am a policeman and he had his woman next to him` yes right I said. I should have said `and I am a judge` Idiot, I hope he has a stressful day, no empathy in some people
I intend to have an easy day today as am out all day tomorrow and on my feet. Turkey casserole for two days is simmering and I will set fred, my new cleaner, to work later on the whole living/dining/kitchen area, I just have to lift a few wires first so he doesn`t get tangled
Not a pleasant august day today, again is autumnal. Someone has seen wasps doing a mating dance, 6-8 weeks early. Maybe nature is saying something
Bye :kisses3:0 -
I am trying to live in a mentally positive place and it is so good for the feel good factor. Am avoiding negativity when I can, no `what ifs` and doomsday scenarios. Living in the moment and it is highly recommended. No news either and no rubbish tv programmes.
I believe there are more energy takers than there are energy givers and I long ago learnt to place an invisible bubble around myself. We all know the people who make us exhausted and those that energise. Listen to their tone of voice, not the whoop whoop gushy voices that some put on but the normal everyday voice. . I can name two of my far away friends right now, both have that whiny voice and they call me when they need to be picked up from their mental of physical states. They always finish the call by feeling better but it is tiring for me
Anyway, a new porridge for me today. I make it in my small rice cooker, on a timer to be ready as I hate the stuff but know it is good for me, so timed cooking makes sure I eat it. Added some fresh apricots last night and it was yummy this morning. So that is two good foods eaten and one of my `many a day`
Also yesterday, I needed to make a small space in my freezer so compoted blackcurrants with gooseberries and a couple of large windfall apples. Just heated slowly for a long time. It is lush, freezing seems to make berries sweeter. So nice at teatime for me with natural yoghurt and a bit of granola and a few almonds. I eat this sort of food once a day, seven days a week and never tire of it.
Off to drink lots of water now as a long day outside later. Drink it now so I don`t end up crossing my legs later when on a field
Bye and try positivity, it works so well0 -
Those who reverse boast that they only have old phones probably don't have children and grandchildren living overseas.
I wouldn't do without my iPhone: firstly I can FaceTime and see them easily, secondly I can text for free using iMessage.
Strangely, it's one of the things I learned from MSE, which has saved me pounds over the years since I retired.
Kittie, I hope your thread on Over 50s has been some help and comfort to you. I have read, and thanked, many of your detailed posts. You're certainly keeping busy.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
