OP, I have to say the best thing I did was to quit DT at the start of the year - suddenly found myself with a load of time! The irony was that I stopped because of 2 incredibly ignorant posters.
Still look at Grabbit and moneysaving in relationships regularly, though.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I am very new here and don't post regularly, but I definitely don't think of my time here as wasted. I have learned so much from this site, and has made me face up to how much money I was wasting. I don't think I will ever stop wanting to learn from other people.0

Sometimes I used to think that I've wasted hours that could have been more productive, but tbh I do get lonely during the day and spending time on here with such lovely people is nice thing to do. There are lots of interesting posts, and lots that make me smile. I also know that on the OS board I can ask something and always get kind and helpful responses.
I think everyone on here is wonderful!0 -
I read and post during evening downtime but not every night. If I need to know anything - MSE is my first port of call:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

I've been addicted to the MSE forum for years and I'm not worried. I'm also a chocolate addict and I'm not worried about that either. With all the antioxidants in my body, I should be immortal.:D
Like others have said, MSE is my first port of call for information and help. If I have a techie question, there is always an answer on here. If I'm going to buy something, I usually check here to ensure I get the best price etc.
I don't bother with Discussion Time but I do like to read the posts in The Arms............and some are laugh out loud funny.
I get out in the real world and spend time with friends and play sport regularly............and I also look forward to seeing what's going on here.
I know I'm addicted because I miss the MSE forum if I don't log on for a few days.;)
I was on holiday earlier this year, on a boat in the middle of the ocean with no internet access for a week. Thank goodness I had chocolate with me, to keep me going.:D10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j [/COLOR]:cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Hmmm, been here more years then I can mention ( was here under another ID before but lost login details) but my average posting is still around 1 a day, so dont think I am totally addicted
It started off for me as a place to come and natter - like going into the office for a catch up - when I wasnt working
Then I found old style and a couple of other boards where I felt I could contribute as well as learn
I keep it on line only. there's a lot of names I'm familiar with, some whos posts I enjoy, others I avoid, but I wouldn't class any one on here as a friend.
I log in in the mornings whilst having my brekkie and at lunchtime, an in the evenings when Im online gaming. Then I can go cold turkey for months on end
It does amaze me how some people are on here 24/7 ( so it seems) and have an opinion on EVERYTHING0 -
Hiya all
I would agree with the posters on here who have said that they have found (and met) friends on here. I also find the information and the support on here is fab. Often someone else on the thread can tell you where to find stuff which is so very helpful. :A
The point I want to add is that most of the folks on the same threads as one's self have the same mindset and/or have had similar experiences. More, sometimes, than those around you in the 'real' world, they understand why certain aspects of Money Saving are interesting. whereas the conversations would bore people who dont have the same focus - i.e. certain ways of spending monies and savaing them.
Therefore it is not a waste of time - very often more of a back up!

I find these forums very helpful I come on here first thing in the morning when I'm having my first tea of the day & am probably on here on week ends when I'm of work, as some one previous said it's nice talking to people who are trying to be more frugal & MMM like me where it would probably bore some of my friends who are not like minded like me

I certainly don't think of my time on here as time wasting and agree with others that it's like chatting with friends, especially on Old Style. I am an early riser and tend to roam around MSE until Mr TA gets up. I don't post on many of the forums but do read a lot of the others and glean lots of quite valuable hints and tips. I might pop back on later in the day if time permits or I have anything to moan about or get off my chest!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

I guess I am a fairly regular on here, but living alone you do get into habits. In the morning I nearly always am up and about around 6.30 at the latest. I always log on with my first cuppa, and read through the different posts that interest me. I sometimes go into the discussion time, but not often as sometimes the folk in there can get quite unpleaseant to each other.
I am not keen on negativity and find it depressing that there are some really nasty folk around who seem to take a pleasure in being horrible to one another.
I am of a much sunnier disposition (as a rule) I have learned such a lot from on here, and hopefully have passed a bit on myself.
Tips and hints to save and not spend are great, and sometimes when someone writes a tip you think Wow thats really useful, and when you try it and it works even better:):)
I have met quite a few of the people on here and every one I have met have been really nice, and over the past 11 years hopefully have made a few friends I went up to Blackpool a few years ago for a 'meet'and had an amazing weekend.
The people on here have seen me through some tough times when I was having my cancer treatment I had so much support. When at 3 a.m. and your feeling dreadful from chemo there was always someone to have a natter to, to cheer you up, and make you feel as though you would get through it all.
I had cheers when I finished my treatment:), and even more when I finally got the all clear. Lots of support when I did the Race for Life a few weeks ago and lots of donations as well (Thank you guys ,my DD and I raised £592.25 al together)
I enjoy coming on here and hearing what everyone is doing and how all our lives are changeing sometimes for the better, and sometimes sadly not.
I have an online Misers cookbook which I have collected lots of my own and others recipes from here. This I have passed onto over 100 or so people over the years.Hopefully its helped them save a few pennies ,most of the feed back has been positive at least.
We often find that the pace of life today is too busy for the odd chat to our neighbours but a ten minutes chat on here first thing in the morning is great.
I do lead a very busy life the rest of the time with clubs, and different interests, and looking after my beloved grandsons. The people on here know all about my family and their children, and we natter to each other in the same way as my late Mum would chat to her neighbours.
The internet has shrunk the world, and this forum is one of the good bits of the net I think its drawn together lots of people with different interests and ideas. Thank you Martin for all your hard work:):)
The idea of the forum is great and There are few who come on here who don't get inspiration from it. You can learn how to cook, clean, budget and save, its win-win.There are a lot of younger people, who for what ever reason, were not lucky enough to have the OS upbringing that I had.
But there again I am pretty old anyway.I hope I in my small way have passed on some of the things to younger members that my late Mum passed on to me over 60 years ago
Its all too easy when you are getting on to be ignored or overlooked (:):):) and life is definitely for living. But I never ever considered my time to be wasted on here
find other people facinating anyway, but then I am a bit of a chatterbox.
The thing is if you don't enjoy it then just stop and do something else. Its a bit like the TV there is an on/off switch, and mine definitely gets switched on ,usually first thing in the morning and sometimes late at night:):)
Have a great day everyone. and if you want to knit socks or read a book, come on here and tell us what you did, we are all quite happy to hear about it:):)
