I have been really struggling with my medical issues recently, I am practically living with hot water bottles both at home and work - it's a running joke in the office these days.

Although I've been sleeping longer and longer I am more tired than ever, and all I can put it down to is that the pain is stopping me get a decent nights sleep - I wake up 5/6 times a night to reposition myself to try and ease it and it can't be helping.

This morning I gave up a little bit and took one of my super strength painkillers. it's not going to help me at work as I've got a HUGE pile of pricing and invoicing to do and am supposed to be sourcing a new franker deal but I don't think I'll be capable of much. As it's Friday I thought I'd treat myself to a pain free day but am starting to feel like I'm on another planet which will probably get worse through the day.

I was very MSE the other day though, I take a lot of medication and have an NHS PPC card which is a godsend, but my acid reflux/hiatus hernia problems have got much worse recently (probably because I've put weight on rather than lost it :o oops...)
It does mean that I now get through 2 600ml bottles of gaviscon a week and my script is only for 2 per month, so these have been in my budget as medical extras since July at £65.70 a month but I went to chemistdirect the other day and bought the generic peptac for £39.36 for 12 bottles :) that should keep me going until early January when I'll do another order :)

You are doing really well with your debt busting KP. Lovely that you now have a house as well but are you also saving an emergency fund as well as clearing debt? That way you have a fund to use if you have an urgent repair or bill which is unforeseen and you are not tempted to put on a credit card or overdraft? Even sticking £25-£50 per month away would give you a bit of a buffer. I am a great fan of emergency funds :)

Thanks enthusiasticsaver, to be honest I have been a bit rubbish with the emergency fund...I've started one a few times and then caved and paid it off the debt instead.

OH and I have now started a house bank account, which we both put £25 extra into a month on top of the bills etc that we have to pay, which will be our emergency fund. Also, because it's 'our' money and not mine, I won't be tempted to pay it off the debt :)

For a good few years the plan has been to go to Mexico for my 30th birthday (would have definitely ended up on CCs!) but since my LBM I've scrapped that idea. However, my parents and other family members have offered to pay for a cheap holiday for OH and I next year as our Christmas/my birthday present. I'm a bit overwhelmed by it as had resigned myself to not having a holiday until the debt was repaid. Off to have a think. It will probably be one of the canary islands but worth exploring options :)

Kirsty you are doing so well. Amazing looking at your numbers. Sorry to hear about how much pain you have been suffering. Can the doctors not help you more?

Thanks Bob and ccl, I am not due to see my gynae until January but there isn't anything they can do now other than swap round medications until the next op I think. I just hate feeling out of control and when I take the strongest painkillers I'm not really myself so I don't take them as often as I should.

Sure enough today has been awful with the spaced out feeling. Had a meeting with our accountant and responded to a question about sales invoicing with 'that's a nice car' :rotfl: have felt sick all day too, haven't eaten enough with the tablets and it made me quite poorly. Think I'll try and stick with the hot water bottles and moderate painkillers as best I can.
I'm hoping this is a bad phase and that it will ease soon....really soon preferably!

I am seeing my gastro consultant later this month and am hoping they will give me an action plan for the acid/hernia, if I have a plan of action to help in some way I think it will help me be more positive about my health.

Forgot to mention that I managed to convince the scrooge that is OH to put the christmas tree up this evening :)

He put the tree up and point blank refused to get involved with decorating it but it's a start. Baby steps haha. If he had his way it wouldn't go up until Christmas Eve, whereas I am more excited this year than ever with it being our first christmas in our own home :) I will drag him round to the excitement!

Had a lovely weekend, my grandparents came to visit and loved the house :) The hall, stairs and landing are now a lovely pale plum colour and the carpet is being laid today, it's all coming together!

I'm putting a brown leather armchair on a free to collector site tonight as it's lovely but we don't have the room and it's blocking pretty much the entire dining room. I really want that room sorted and cleared by Christmas so we can have a relaxed christmas dinner in there :)

OH actually got involved in the decorations yesterday when we had to go and buy a tree topper - he chose it and then asked me to put it on with him so we finished our first tree together

My grandparents have given us an extra Christmas present - £50 towards a new toilet so it shouldn't cause us too many problems trying to fit that into the budget just before christmas.

My Dad has started a new job this morning, which I'm hoping goes well - he has worked in retail since he was 16 but has had some heart problems recently and was advised to think about a less stressful job as the doctor felt the stress of work was contributing to his issues. He left in August and has had a couple of months off work to try and get himself sorted but has a new job in a completely different sector. He finally has a Mon-Fri job :T

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend and is fighting fit for the week ahead :D

Had a few hours off work so did a couple of big batch cooks - a normal bolognese and a humungous beef and red wine stew which is bubbling away ready for the dumplings to be added in later. Smells delicious if I do say so myself :)

Went to open a joint account household account today but hit a wall as apparently the help to buy ISAs have killed the ability to get an appointment at less than 3 weeks notice  not ideal but it will be fine I'm sure. Our new appt is 22nd Dec which is a little close to xmas to be heading into town in my book but at least the account will be sorted before the new year which will be a bonus :)

  • Sounds like it's all coming together Kirsty. It will be a fantastic first Christmas together in your new home. x
