Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi Kirsty
I don't understand why you need an appointment just to open a joint account?
Your home sounds wonderful and how kind of your grandparents to pay for your new loo. It will be a lovely Christmas.

Neither do I to be honest Bob! We tried to do it online but it said we needed to make an appointment in branch.

I'm wondering if it's to do with OH not being UK born even though he is a UK citizen (parents were living abroad when he was born) I can't think it's for any other reason.
We both got separate accounts online, but for some reason the joint one just won't work!

Thanks both, I'm so impatient for Christmas to actually be here!

Had a sit down and talk with OH last night as he is really set on us visiting his parents and sorting out the rest of his stuff to be shipped over within the next 18 months....I had to be completely frank with him and let him know that I would love to go. I really like his parents and they've done something so amazing for us BUT there is no way I can justify spending the amount of money required to get both of us to New Zealand. I've told him that he will have to go on his own.
I think he is sulking at the moment. He knows how important debt busting is for me and he will come round, I think he is just feeling hard done by as we see my parents at least once a month, usually more and we haven't seen his parents for 18 months.
I have told him is he feels the need to pay for me to go, that's fine :rotfl: that quickly shut him up.

Thanks lincs1205 :) Dare I say it, it's been much easier than I thought it would. There have been points where I wanted to throw in the towel, but not as much as I want a child/children so I've tried to focus on that...being 36 months away from the debt free date is the only thing bothering me at the moment, which I'm sure will spur me on to make as many payments as possible - listed a few things on eBay to help the cause too :)

Have you checked out the Payment a Day thread? It's been a massive help to me, Bob introduced me to it and I haven't looked back since :)

Ok. I'll apologise in advance as I had the day from hell yesterday and this is probably going to turn into a whiney, self pitying post :(

    First of all...
My mom has a lot of health problems and I had a call to say she had had a fall. She's quite badly hurt her knee which is all misshapen so I'm trying to convince her to go to the hospital and get checked out but she won't take time off work as she has a lot of problems with them re: time off for her health. Just to make matters worse when she fell no-one helped her, in fact some lowlifes actually stood around and just laughed at her trying to get up  it makes me so angry! She is on crutches and has hip and spine problems. She has to be helped out of a chair so there was no way she was going to be able to get up off the floor with no help. Thanks goodness an older couple came along after about 5 minutes and went and fetched shopping centre security to help her up.

    Secondly...
Got home and it was freezing, made my way to the boiler cupboard to check OH hadn't turned it off and was greeted by a plethora of red lights and an error code. An hour on the phone to vaillant later and it was working but still have red lights on so need to get someone out to have a look at that. Money money money...

    Thirdly...
OH came home from work having had a talking to because of his attitude (I'm the first to admit he can be a stroppy !!!!!!, although he is reluctant to agree!) the problem with this is this has happened at a previous job...after the talking to he lost the will to do a good job and I really thought he was going to end up being fired. He hates his job anyway but I really need him to find something else before this one goes tits up as I can't afford the mortgage etc and debt busting (or even just min payments) on my wage alone. I am really worried he is going to stop trying and we will be up !!!! creek without a paddle :(

    Fouthly...
Woke up in the middle of the night and nipped to the loo, opened the bathroom floor and thought I had gone to the beach! I practically needed an ark to get to the loo (bit of an exaggeration but I'm trying to keep myself laughing) the pipe between the cistern and pan has completely split

and just to top it off my womanly problems have decided to make themselves known in a big way so I'm currently hugging 2 hot water bottles and trying to work out how I can get the flooded bathroom and broken boiler sorted with no money, motivate OH enough to do a good job but not too much that he accuses me of not understanding and pushing him too hard and to get my Mom to a hospital regardless of her stupid workplace sickness policies....all whilst working a 10+ hour day as I'm working on an important tender :(

Sorry for being so rubbish I just feel like everything has gone wrong at once and really needed to get it all out.

  • Oh bless you hun, you certainly are going through it. It is difficult with workplace policies but they need to realise that if your mum is in pain then she isn't going to be able to do her job properly and will end up in more pain and could end up going after them got exacerbating the injury. With regards to your boiler get on the phone to them and give them hell. Oh well he needs a gentle nudge and a bit of a reminder that you're a team and you're there for him but he needs to reign his temper in. Do you know any good plumbers ?, so sorry you're having a rough time of it sending gentle hugs:grouphug:

Thanks lincs :hello: both for taking to the time to send me gentle hugs and your words of wisdom.

I am trying to tell her the same, but she is already going through her union to challenge a written warning they gave her for time off for an operation (even with all documentation from consultants etc) so I do feel for her. She can't afford to lose her job but somethings are more important than a job...in my mind my Mom is definitely one of those things.

The boiler isn't under warranty so the man was very nice to talk me through a temp fix, now it's a case of finding a boiler repair man who doesn't charge the Earth!

I really need to work out a plan of action to talk to OH, he just doesn't take 'meddling' very well and to be honest last time he had work issues what they were doing was against the law (wrongly administered disciplinary letters etc) so I was 'trying' to help by writing the response letters but it actually made his remaining time there very difficult so I don't think he appreciates my thoughts on things like that anymore.

I'm asking for recommendations at work for a plumber today so hopefully will get something sorted sharpish. In the meantime I am going home on my breaks to change the towels that are currently wedged under the cistern :rotfl: (I can't remember where the stopcock is...oops.

  • You're very welcome hun, I wouldn't even know what a stopcock looks like lol or where to look it lol. Your poor mum bless her there so precious and you only get one its just getting them to follow advice that can be a problem bless them.
