I'm very pleased that it's over and done with :)

Latest of the ongoing saga with the house is the waste pipe from the toilet has started leaking....it's a good job I love this house or I'd swear it was jinxed :rotfl: off to Wickes this afternoon to do a bit of toilet pricing up (I know we could get it repaired but the U bend on the toilet is causing a few issues - it keeps blocking. Literally everytime we use the toilet. I had a wee and then blew my nose on Monday and the toilet took 8 flushes and 15 minutes with the coathanger to unblock  not ideal, especially as we are now on a water meter!)

Have you tried buying one of those solutions that are supposed to unblock the ubend chemically?

I bought one that went down there overnight, and I tried a method on youtube involving kettles of water and washing up liquid but nothing has worked yet. I think it's the angle of the ubend. I did speak to the lady who used to live here and there have been issues with it since it was put in.

Managed to find a toilet going on ebay for £30 at the moment so fingers crossed it stays low.

Just done 2 online shops on Sainsburys (one in my name, one in OHs) and got the £18 off £60 spend off each so stocked up on laundry stuff and pasta etc. Got enough stuff to do lunches for 2 weeks so when it's delivered on Monday I'll need to do a big cook up :)

Still got almost £100 left for this months grocery budget so should be fine.

Well today has been a bit of a strange day. Had a lovely lie in this morning (we LOVE our new bed, right now I feel like it was worth every penny!)

Went to a jewellery party this afternoon at a friends house. Had a lovely time and very much enjoyed trying on all the diamonds but I was honest from the start that I was there to see friends, and definitely not to buy anything.

Saw a beautiful diamond ring that I absolutely fell in love with and it was a good deal (Total of 1 carat diamond for £1200) and the old me would have been very tempted and probably stuck it on a credit card. The new me announced to the room that I loved it, but it was the same price as the patio doors we want putting in our dining room and promptly sat back down :)

I nearly fell off my chair when one of the ladies tried on a ring (4 carat solitaire) that was priced up at £33,000 :eek: even if I had the money I wouldn't spend that!

Definitely glad I'm sticking with my PADs and debt busting rather than filling my hands with trinkets I cant afford...although I did take a picture so I can add it to my wish list for when I'm debt free and can save for it!

  • I don't know if it's because I've never had the money to spend, but whenever I look at things as expensive as that I think about things that I would rather spend the money on. Like home improvements; a huge family holiday etc. I just cannot justify spending a fortune on something so unimportant (personally) to me. My engagement and wedding rings cost less than £150 altogether. £33000 is about half of my remaining mortgage and that's exactly where it would go if I had that kind of money.

I agree these days ccl, I've never really had the money to spend but I have some family jewellery and I can't imagine anything being more valuable to me than those pieces so I couldn't justify 33K on anything other than towards a house!

If I'm honest the one I really liked (£1200 one) was my ideal engagement ring which is probably why I loved it so much. It's the type of ring I've always gravitated towards but I'd never buy a ring which was so obviously an engagement type ring for myself...it was nice to wear it and see how it looked on me though.

Funnily enough, that's the first thing I said when they said how much the ring was - that's more than a third of my mortgage!
