Bob, you have made my day with that!

Fingers crossed we get lucky and everything goes through fairly quickly, we just can't wait to get in.

One of the group is getting married next year, and one recently had a baby so I think we are all feeling the pinch a little.

Speaking of my friend, we had our weekly 'friends' night on Wednesday and it was decided I would be Godmother to the little one. I'm absolutely thrilled! Best news I've had all week (apart from the mortgage of course ;))

This mornings PAD has taken me to 29.98% of my debt paid.....so tempted to make an extra PAD just to see that 30%, but I'm trying my hardest to stick to exactly what budget I have set out per day....just means that we will have to miss out on our weekly 2 for £10 lunch tomorrow....decisions decisions!

I really am Bob :D I made a PAD today which took me over 30% paid off and am feeling very proud of myself at the moment!

It's been an absolute life saver for me - everytime I think about buying something I think about how much it would reduce my PADs for that month and soon snap out of it....or so I thought...

We went shopping today with OHs friend who has come to visit for the weekend. Idea was to get him some shirts for a new job he starts next week as he likes to have a female opinion....actually ended up with OH and I buying £70 worth of kitchen stuff for the house. Whilst we need it I feel really guilty for spending. I love what we've bought, and plan on it lasting us a very long time but still....I need to resign myself to actually spending some money now we have the mortgage because there is stuff we need for the house!

Managed to get a washing machine for £30 off ebay which was a bonus, and my parents are buying us a tumble dryer as our housewarming present. We have arranged to buy the vendors oven and fridge freezer for £80 so a lot of what we need we have now got, and at bargain prices but still makes me feel bad.

The only thing still to get is our bed. We have a bed which I've had for years and the frame is broken. The mattress is 11 years old and to be honest is killing both of us....which brings the next dilemma. Do we spend 300-400 on a short term bed or splash out a bit on comfort and longevity. I know what we both WANT to do (and have actually got the money sorted to do so without touching credit cards as we get a cashback from the mortgage) but I also know I should be throwing my part of the cashback at my debt.

It's stressing me out as OH has been fantastic up until now about my debt busting but today he asked me if I would consider making just the monthly payments and not PAD-ing until we know we have everything for the house sorted. I know he means well, and he doesn't want to feel like he is paying for everything and I never want him to feel that, but I really don't want to give up PAD-ing, even for a month or two because it has made such a difference to me. I think I might suggest that I make minimal PADs (after this month anyway, as I have that already worked out!) rather than trying to PAD as much as possible and not leaving myself with a buffer....I'm torn!

Any advice welcome, and as always, a big thank you for reading my drivel!

    K x

  • You can get some really good mattresses on offer on places like Gr0upon. I got my memory foam one there - less than £150 for a king size bed. It was like a revelation. I think the frame is less important than the mattress in my humble opinion. We were lucky when we moved into our place that all of the furniture and white goods were left behind. Most have since been replaced but it was a start for us anyway...

I didn't think about Groupon to be honest, that's definitely a good plan. Thanks CCL!

We did some research and think a divan bed will be best for us, in terms of storage and apparently can increase the life of your mattress as it's not getting extra pressure on the areas where the slats are (bit cynical about this), but this might have to be a later purchase given the costs involved.

I have to say beds are one of the things we did splash out on. We bought 2 dreams beds at around a grand each when we were setting up home. We paid them off over the 0% period and as they had a 10 year warrantee we felt they were worth it. We have been very comfy on ours and DS has the one that started life as a guest bed. He looks tiny in it as it's a king size but otherwise we'd have had to get rid of the 2nd bed and buy him bunk beds. Which seemed a very bad economy.
Bottom line if you can spend the money do but otherwise you can upgrade at any time when you have more money.

Well done for being under 30%. And I think laying off the PADS might be ok for a month or so if it makes your OH more comfortable. But then again you could always keep trying to persuade him and hope for the best.

After much consideration and a few more shops visited we bought a bed :T I couldn't justify £950 on the one we had originally seen that we liked so we mooched about and lay on a lot of beds and found a store that actually had the next model up (1500 sprung with a triple memory foam layer, very posh sounding!) on at a reduced price. I cheekily asked if they would honour an online only discount code we had found and they agreed so got the divan bed with the lovely mattress for £709. Still a lot of money but hopefully worth every penny for a decent nights sleep. We lay on it in different positions for about half an hour before committing and it was like being cocooned whilst still being firm - heaven compared to the springy, dipped one we have now!

OH is happy that we got a new bed for our first home which is ours rather than mine, and I'm happy because I got extra discount!

Have been very undecided about PAD-ing. I feel like it has motivated me massively and I don't want to give that up. I think I will still PAD so everytime I log on to an online account I see a reduced amount owing I will feel happy, but try to limit myself to around £1 per day as of next month. £30 extra per month is more than I would have done pre-LBM so at least it's still the right direction.

An a bit of a downer at the moment as my gynae problem has reared it's ugly head massively over the past few weeks. I'm exhausted from the pain but really don't want to go back to relying on my knock me out painkillers. They affect my work, driving and home life and it's the last thing I want but I can't go on like this - I'm vile to OH (partly hormones and partly because I'm very ratty when I'm in pain) Not a lot I can do until my next consultant appointment in January  so I'm off to bed with hot water bottles, heat pads and knock me out tablets in the hope I sleep through the pain and feel better tomorrow...

    Night all :)

Thanks CCL, I'm feeling a bit brighter this morning - think I must have got a fairly decent nights sleep.

Still practically attached to my hot water bottles but didn't take any of my strong painkillers last night and still managed to sleep so hopefully this phase is starting to ease - I tend to have problems in waves, so I could have a bad couple of months and then nothing for a few months - very frustrating as there never seems to be any warning.

I'm not sure if I've mentioned yet but in addition to moving house shortly, my company is also moving offices next week which is my responsibility. I'm up to my eyeballs in address change documents for all the powers that be, along with planning all installations for the new office which I need to be present for, as well as my normal 40 hour a week job :think:
Best start cracking out the extra arms!

    Have a good Tuesday :)
