Perhaps this person arrives late and leaves early, is thoughtless, thinks it does no harm and does not realise that you object or that you have even noticed. You don't hear them arrive, you don't hear them leave. A short note one night on the windscreen might just put an end to it, simple as that.

Is it a rare occurrence, unless parking on your road is difficult and / or your drive is easily accessible I agree with the poster who suggested that the car is hiding while the owner is visiting.

Although it might irritate you does it actually inconvenience you?

    1st time this occurred - polite/assetive note.

2nd time this occurred - If someone parked on my drive, without permisson or being known to me, their car would be removed with the same force as if someone walked in to my living room without permission or being known to me.

Whether it inconveniences the OP or not is immaterial, it is the OP's property/land that is being taken advantage of and the basics of civility and privacy are not being followed.

Clearly all responses differ from person to person. I have access to the right tools and equipment to remove the vehicle from my land/property and/or immobilise it on my land if necessary. I also have no fear of any repercussions that may come to my door.

OP - do you have any friendly neighbours who could park there car there overnight to stop the offender doing it without permission? At least for a short period of time. That way you would know who was parking there and be able to reach them should you need to leave unexpectedly etc.

The easiest option is a length of rope /string/wire strung temporarily across the drive with a PRIVATE DRIVE notice on it.

    Simples?

Place large solid dark coloured object half way up the drive, place retro-reflective object at the back of the drive (a few road cones or something), when this car pulls up in the dark, just wait for the crunch :)

Just to be clear, it is trespass and you are entitled to insist that they remove the car, or seek compensation (including costs). Compensation is likely to be minimal (forget the £100, you have to create a contract and if you see the parking tickets subforum you'll see the legality of such a charge is dubious).

You even have to be careful about putting notices on cars as even paper under a windscreen wiper can make the police nervous about criminal damage.

Oh, come on now, don't be daft.
So, pop a wheelie bin at the end of the drive any time you don't want someone to use it. Stick a big "Private - trespassers will be prosecuted" notice, and get the registration number if it happens again.

Why should the OP have to inconvenience themselves every time the leave their drive way vacant?
One work around you might be able to do is that as this upsetting you and you are unable to solve it, you might suggest to the police that someone appears to be harassing you - and harassment is a criminal offence. That might just be enough for them to contact the owner and suggest that they desist.

At last something practical. But that can only be done if the OP has some form of contact with the "punk." He has to tell them to cease the harassment, for it to be criminal offence. If the OP heeds your advice, by not putting a note on the car, he is kind of stymied, isn't he.

With all due respect I haven't seen you make any suggestions, except leaving a note which you may well notice I also suggested.

What would you suggest if the note doesn't work?

I would suggest what IanMSpencer recommended. Call the police and report the driver for harassment.

Put a note on the car saying it will be clamped-whether true or not, it's a deterrent, and he's unlikely to know that you can't do it.

Not if he has popped over to the parking forum it won't be. ;)

But the note could read that it will be removed, at the owner's cost. That might make them re-consider for the next time. It worked for me.

    No it wouldn't.

    Yes it would.

It is a criminal offence to clamp/block/tow away a vehicle on private land without lawful authority. Lawful authority to immobilise or move a vehicle is restricted to a number of organisation such as the police, DVLA and local authorities.

But you wouldn't be blocking them in, you'd merely be parking on your own drive, all the other person has to do is knock on the door to ask you to let them out, if you refuse, then that could be another matter, that said I would like to think that if the Police were to be involved they would show a little common sense and have a chat with both parties and try and sort it amicably rather than using the word of law.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world
