  • So am I the only person wondering if...

    a) You have a son/daughter in their early 20s/late teens living with you

    b) You have a fairly big house

Was there a unfamiliar face at breakfast and a sheepish looking son / daughter ?
Spelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...

Pet Peeves.... queues, vain people and hypocrites ..not necessarily in that order.

If it's there again block them in.

Sadly, that would be a criminal offence.

A photo of the car on your drive would help but generally the DVLA seem willing to hand out details at the drop of a hat.
  • Just to be clear, it is trespass and you are entitled to insist that they remove the car, or seek compensation (including costs). Compensation is likely to be minimal (forget the £100, you have to create a contract and if you see the parking tickets subforum you'll see the legality of such a charge is dubious).

You even have to be careful about putting notices on cars as even paper under a windscreen wiper can make the police nervous about criminal damage.

So, pop a wheelie bin at the end of the drive any time you don't want someone to use it. Stick a big "Private - trespassers will be prosecuted" notice, and get the registration number if it happens again.

One work around you might be able to do is that as this upsetting you and you are unable to solve it, you might suggest to the police that someone appears to be harassing you - and harassment is a criminal offence. That might just be enough for them to contact the owner and suggest that they desist.

Yes, because direct action resulting in criminal damage is a good way to get the police on your side, and / or to encourage the driver of the car to do the same to your car(s).

    Brilliant! Well thought through!

With all due respect I haven't seen you make any suggestions, except leaving a note which you may well notice I also suggested.

What would you suggest if the note doesn't work?

Put a note on the car saying it will be clamped-whether true or not, it's a deterrent, and he's unlikely to know that you can't do it.

Strip the car down for parts and assume it was left as a gift on your drive way

I'm not going to do anything criminal, otherwise I'll end up with a criminal record for his civil offence.

My drive is shaped like an arc, so although it's one drive it's effectively two. I won't be permanently able to block access without getting gates, and I don't want to fork out so much money. The following sounds a lot cheaper...

I'd like to write a polite but insistent letter. Does this constitute a good enough reason? And wouldn't I have to provide evidence? I don't want to get into trouble. Do they inform the other party that you've made the request? I might prefer to write an anonymous letter, because I'm not the youngest and I'm not in the best of health, so I don't want any trouble. £2.50 I can stomach though, if it keeps him/her off my drive for good.

please can you stop parking on my drive at number 52.

    regards

    Mr Anon

Someones parking on your drive? Park at the end of the drive so they can't trespass. If they somehow do, leave a note saying if it happens again it's getting towed.
Your issue isn't going to get solved at the keyboard.
