But isn't the problem only if your children are likely to swallow the parts. if your daughter is so attached to them why bother? Surely she is old enough to not to swallow the parts now - I know my 5 year old would not even dream of putting things like magnets in her mouth. This is what I was getting at, if your daughter loves them and is old enough to know not to pop them in her mouth (your youngest is 6 isn't she?) then why bother with the hassle of returning them? Why do you need replacements if they are not likley to be a danger to her? The reason there is hardly anything on the list is because everyone wants replacements and then those that need them as they have young children about can't get them cos everyone else has already taken them whether they need them or not.

As someone mentioned before, the reason there is limited replacements is because they are only offering old/discontinued stock. There are quite a few polly pocket toys in the Argos book that my dd would have liked as a replacement, but these are not being offered as they are new products.

I was told I was allowed to swap my toy for any toy in the catalogue so I did exactly that.

Personally don't mind if you call me greedy as reading your comments I find you not only rude but ignorant so I shall take it as a compliment!

Loobysaver, you have no need to defend yourself. Each parent does the best for their own children and if, like me, you feel nervous or even a little uneasy about keeping a toy with a danger warning you should expect it to be replaced with something else that your child can love and cherish as much.

Why would someone actively choose an item worth £80 to replace something that cost them £7.99? And why is everyone else aplauding and encouraging this? Is that not greed?? What would you call it?? Surely a replacement is for the same value? OK, maybe we would try it on at double the price but to actively choose something that is 10 times more then you originally paid. What is that then, being ignorant I really am not sure?

If you thought your child might eat Polly Pocket pieces then you would not have bought this range of toys in the first place because they have a thousand pieces each set. But, from what you are saying, the reason you want to swap is to get new toys from the Argos Catalogue that your daughter has seen. Quite rightly so, old products should be replaced with old products because everyone seems to be taking the mick - if it was my business then I would be doing the same. Of course, what makes it worse is that everyone is taking advantage of the fact you can return toys that are 4 years old 'just in case' and this is why they are giving old stock out instead of rolling it out in November to make it look like you are getting a bargain on Xmas week. If it is not your greed it is everyone elses that has made the company give 'rubbish' as replacements. It seems that everyone wants to replace their old toys with new ones whether they are from the faulty batch or not and this has been shown by this thread.

If anyone was that bothered about their child and worried that he/she was going to eat small piece toys why did you buy/let them have Polly Pocket in the first place?? Whats more you want Mattel to replace it with new Polly Pocket that you've seen in the Argos brochure and you are annoyed because they won't do this. However, you want them to replace your old toy that your child is not going to eat for the same (newer) version in the Argos Catalogue (that you have stated your daughter would love so you must of already asked her to pick out a replacement) that your child is not going to eat. Right. Ooer, I think I am confusing myself. And yes, I do have a little girl and yes she has Polly Pocket. Am I replacing it - No, because she is old enough to know that small peices do not go up her nose, ears or in her throat as she may die if she swallows them. She has known this from an early age. Or, are you saying I should be swapping her pieces of this and that mixed in a box for the brand new Dora's Kitchen they have on the list?

I have two children and with my first I listened a lot to what other people had to say about how to bring her up and what was "Best". Now I have a little boy too, almost two and I have finally realised that I really do know what is best for MY children and I also have learnt to respect what people believe is best for their children (common sense permitting!). I replaced my toy because my little boy is still at the age to happily put anything anywhere! I completely understand that some people want to keep their childrens toys as they have, I hope, evaluated the risks in their home and seen no danger.

I understand why people would want to swap their toys for current range toys as especially with older children they are so bliming fussy now a days. My daughter is only four and I have had such a long day trying to get the right Bratz school gear!! Honestly, you would think she was a teenager.

I am more aware of the point you are trying to make now and I think, perhaps because of the way your previous comments were written, I took it a little more personally then I should have.

I think you have obviously put a lot of thought into whether or not to return your toys and I think every parent that cares about their children makes the right choice for THEIR children.

The Dora kitchen is cool though so if anyone has enough to swap it for it is well worth it!!!

Also on the "Greed" issue I really would like to think that I am not a greedy person. My daughter liked three things from the catalogue. One I had already bought in the Boots sale for Christmas, the other was not age appropriate. The item I returned was a jewellery maker. I think it has a RRP of around £15 - £20. I was told I could swap for any toy in the catalogue and I was very pleased with this very generous offer. I am not aware why some people have had a different experience with their returns but I was very happy. I phoned them up when it arrived as after reading people's experiences on here I did not expect to get it and was told I was the first person who had phoned them up to thank them. Am not all bad, I promise!!

Sorry, I was not having a dig at everyone. It weas more I was reading through and people were swapping when they, or from what I saw, had no need to - and them moaning that the swap was not good enough. I totally understand if you have a young child who puts stuff in his mouth - my son put a bead up his nose a few months ago - it was the first and last time he did that though as I told him if he breathed in he would die. nothing like scaring them to stop them, be he did understand, on of our pets had died so he understands about death and I know not all kids do understand at 3, but by a later age I can't see why people would bother replacing it for this reason and this is what I was trying to say - albeit in a bad way. I was not directing anyone at anyone - by Looby came back with a comment so she got 'picked on' in my response. I have little excuse - roll on school and I have PMT, not the best week for posting I guess. I hope you can see what I was reading and what I was trying to say. My 4 year old daughter loves Polly Pocket and I have a 3 year old as well but I would not return it as I don't see the point - I did make a tongue in cheek comment about getting free stuff for Xmas but when you read that people have got stuff that is 3 years old and they are taking it back to get refund and new toys, I do think that is down to greed - these people are spoiling it for those other people who do need a refund if the toys are coming apart. I could pop off to a boot sale this weekend and then buy some PP stuff and then take it all back for refund - is that fair? Exchanging it because you can and because you want something better/newer is exploiting a bad situation. I am dreading Xmas as there are going to be so few discounts on stuff available and I know money will be tight for us, we usually rely on buying stuff in the sales and on multibuy and the kids get a lot (too much I guess) but chances are the companies will not be able to afford to offer that this year and that will be a shame - not just for my kids - but for all the kids, especially those whose parents are on benefits and low pay who can't afford to pay full price.

Anyhow, my rant is over, I am sorry if I thought I was directing at you Looby - it was that you came back with an answer and you should have ignored me, I was just trying to say it how it all reads. And god, the jewellery makers and Polly Pocket are a pain in the backside - so many pieces, I have hoovered more than she has made!! I used to feel bad and get them out of the hoover box but now I don't bother! By Xmas she'll have none left and will need new ones anyway

No probs. It's just dealing with a tearful child that has seen her Polly Pocket toys on the news has made me a bit tetchy. Also the fact that one of the toys she has had for only a month and I don't see why she should have to accept several smaller "old" style sets to replace her large expensive Polly World set that is brand new. I may well not bother and just keep it anyway. I'll just have to obsessively lock it away whenever dd has friends over:rolleyes:

I only want a decent replacement of the same value, nothing more, nothing less.

Anyway I said I wasn't gonna reply and I have - oh well!:D

You dont have to send the full sets back, just sent the bits with the magnets in , thats what we have done so my daughter still has the sets and dolls just not the clip on clothes etc.
