Mattel has recalled millions of toys

We bought a hop and pop for our son,made by mattel he loved it. Only after a few months he managed to break of the rattle on the side of the chair, and preceded to choke on it. We wrote to them, and after a couple of phone conversations they took back the hop and pop worth £30 pounds and they sent two toys in way of compensation worth over £70.
Needless to say our boy was over the moon.:j And none the worse for his brush with mattel.

I've got my catalogue through this morning and I am not happy.

I worked out that I have £100 worth of polly pocket to return and one tearful dd to deal with. I was hoping to get one of the big sets like the cruise ship which is £44.99 in the Argos catalogue. Instead there are loads of little sets which my dd isn't inerested in at all.

I don't know what to do now. I don't understand why the choice is so limited. I think we are going to have to keep the old toys now and just be careful as there is nothing that is suitable as an alternative.:mad: Most of the other non polly pocket stuff is suitable for toddlers and not 6 year olds!

Has anyone phoned up and tried to get stuff that isn't in the catalogue??

Lobbysaver, contact them. I really hope they understand your problem. Just stress the age of your child and their upset at losing their toys and I am sure they will try and arrange something. I always think that if you at least start of asking nicely your more likely to find some kind natured soul to help you. If you really get no where that all I can think of is getting Christams presents for any other children you need to buy for and giving your daughter some money. To be honest though how many of us actually pay the RRP on anything? The vast majority of the toys you can get somewhere else cheaper but then I guess they are giving you the full RRP of the items returned whether or not you paid that.

Also thanks to Jacklia for listing the toys that I couldn't remember. That must have taken you quite a while to list all the numbers and prices too. Bet you helped lots of people out too.

Nor do i to be honest, matell & fisher price make hundreds of different toys, maybe the ones it the catalogue are cheapest for them to produce, or maybe discontined stock they want to get rid of !

Hit the nail on the head with discontinued me thinks!

When my little one chose the Dora kitchen I did a search around to see what price shops sold it for and found it to be discontinued. Same with the games listed by Jacklia.

That's not on really is it. My dd only got some of her polly world set for her birthday last month so I think it it very unfair to offer such limited replacements especially when they have such a good range available elsewhere. I don't know why they just can't send us some sort of "Mattell" voucher we can use in the high street.

Thanks to all the info provided by MSErs (?) about their experiences. I found it very helpful when deciding whether to keep mine, return to Mattel or take for a refund. Just for the record, I went to my local Boots store this morning with a Polly Pocket Snow Cool Hotel and Rocking Theme Park, brand new and still boxed. They scanned the Snow Cool Hotel and said it was coming up at £5. I said I would keep it as is a present for my niece who is 8 and is unlikely to swallow magnets and £5 wouldn't be enough for me to buy her another decent present (I may still return it to Mattel if there is anything in the catalogue suitable when I get it). The Rocking Theme Park they refunded me £29.99. This is more than I paid for it (won't go into any more detail on this public forum!) so I was pleased. They did originally offer me less when they scanned the bar code but then they put the item code on their recall letter in and it came up at £29.99 so that's what they refunded. I think they may have offered more for the Snow Cool Hotel had they entered the item code rather than scanned it but I was pleased with the Theme Park refund so didn't push it.

I am finding this thread more than a little bizarre and I read it open mouthed. I admit I oriinally suggested getting loads of free stuff but it was more tongue in cheek than anything else but everyone just seems to be getting greedy over this.

If you have to return the items with the magnets when why just not replace the bits you are sending back (doll and dress for another doll and dress rather than sending a doll and a dress and getting 'angry' because the whole set has not been replaced for you. The whole set is not the problem - the doll and dress are.

The reason the list is so poor is because they have recalled a lot of the toys and you are not the only ones who want them replacing so I am guessing they must be totally running out of the toys to relace them with. That's from what they have left of the recalled ones. I just find it wrong to expect to get a £7.99 toy replaced with an £80 on whether it is discontinued or not.

It seems to be a frenzy on people wanting their items replaced whether there is any danger or not, people just want new and better toys out of it. I admit if you have little ones then the magnets are a danger, that is understandable, but 10 year old won't put them in their mouth, so why do you want to send them back - someone already mentioned their kid wanted the new range instead. This is just plain greedy.

I am actually finding it shocking that you want to return them just because you can whether there is any danger or not, come Xmas when there is nothing on the shelves and nothing on offer prices so kids have less under the tree everyone will be moaning. Personally I am dreading Xmas - Mattel and Fisher Price are the biggest toy retailers in the world, there is no way they are going to be able to afford to sell to stores at discount so they won't be able to offer the discounts to us and that means Xmas is going to be expensive this year now and where I can usually spend £100 and get lots on BOGOF or getting little extras when you buy a particular item then this won't happpen. Plus the other manufacurers will know this and deliberatley keep their prices high so that we have to buy their toys. And that is because people just want to swap the toys they have for better and new ones.

Keep the bigger parts of the toys and use the money Mattel are offering you to replace the dolls, clothes and bits with magnets that can come off only. That is common sense and not greedy - anything more than this is just simply greed and I think you should all be ashamed of yourselves. Those of you that have babies is fair enough but people who bought PP for their older kids knew these things were full of tiny pieces anyway. Those of you who have sets that are 2 years old are obviosuly not going to have a problem because the products would certainly have been recalled before this. As the woman from mattel has said, pop all the magnet peices back and then you can replace the dolls and clothes - if not now then later when they are less busy - of course you are not going to get your replacement packet in the post the next day, this company is probably overwhelmed with people trying to contact them and that is why they have redirected their calls 24/7 via the US so that you can contact them.

Call me what you like but reading this thread, some of you are just plain greedy - you bought the toys 2 years ago and there is clearly nothing wrong with them. Screwing Mattel and fisher price over money and new toys for these toys will mean everyone has to pay one way or another and when you child only get one toy instead of 3 for Xmas they will be the ones that will suffer in the long run - or maybe your credit card when you still decide to buy the 3 even though it costs 3 times more.

This site is supposed to be about moneysaving not screwing companies into the ground just because you want new stuff for your kids for free. And those of you that are should be ashamed of yourselves IMO!!

I don't really understand what you are getting at! There isn't an option to replace just the dolls and use money Mattell are supposedly offereing! The option mattell have given me is to return the whole set and chose an alternative toy as a replacement. I personally am not greeedy and would rather keep the Polly pocket toys my dd has as she loves them! The very limited alternative stock list is what I am upset about.:mad:
