Going this summer with a 4 year old. Just wanted to know if you can hire some sort of ride on buggys for kids at the park. She is now too big for a pram and a bit too big to carry around. And all that walking and I know what she is going to say.

    Hi

For £8 a day, it would be cheaper and better to buy a reclinable one. I found an umbrella folding stroller that reclines in the mothercare sale for £25, or see if there is someone you can borrow of maybe?

I have read several reviews of people helping themselves to rented ones when you park them to go on rides, hoping this is not the case with brought ones too!
  • We have both beenlucky enough to book the 3 days off work to give us 11 days off during the easter/royal wedding period :D We've decided on a trip to Disney !! Yay!!

Does anybody have a reccomendation for a hotel/package that would suit our needs?

We have an 18 month old daughter
Would ideally like to stay on site
    To include breakfast
Would 3 nights be enough/too long?
I'm guessing that Tue-Fri would be a good time to stay as it will be quieter&cheaper?
    Hotel budget is around £500

    Thankyou x x x

That is around Easter time so one of the more expensive times to go. Try Sequoia Lodge, Hotel Cheyenne or if you don't mind staying in one of the associated hotels, maybe The Explorers hotel. Breakfast is included in on site and associated hotels, and 3 nights for your first visit with a little one will be ample IMO.

Does anyone know where I can find a link that shows when the French/German bank and school holidays are please. Preferable in English. I did find one way back but could not make head nor tail of it. Thanks.

  • If you had the choice, would you rather stay at Disney Santa Fe, Disney NewYork, or Thomas Cook Explorers hotel?

    Why?

I'm going the week after Easter with a group of 20 families who all have children with autism. I understand that the New York is by far the closest to the park and if you stay in a Disney-owned property, you get access to Extra Magic Hours, but aside from that, I'm at a loss.

What I'm asking is, is it worth the extra expense? I think I want to stay at the New York, but we all have to stay together. I know that with Disney holidays, you usually get what you pay for, but I've never been to DLP before (have been to Disneyland California many, many times) and would appreciate your wisdom and experience.

    Kind thanks in advance.

You are a star ballet, thanks. I will bookmark these for the future - looks like June half term will be a good time to go then!!

I have a child with Autism and he did not like the HNY much - in fact we are just planning our next trip and will be staying in Santa Fe as it is Cars themed and I know he will love it there. I did not think that there was much theming to HNY, it just was not for us, my son has not mentioned it at all, did not want his photos taken - you just kind of know really.

Explorers is not walking distance and we found that we often had to wait for the next bus - trying explaining that to an ASD child!! We did like Sequioa Lodge though, but cheaper and next door to HNY.

Another aside, I am not sure how you are getting there but you might want to stay in Santa Fe and use the money saved on accomodation to upgrading to Leisure Select (or whatever it is) on the Eurostar. My son gets totally freaked out being in standard class as there are LOTS of people and noise, bearing in mind that some are sitting 2 to a seat (under 4's) there is potential for overcrowding, Leisure Select gives you more space and it is always quiet so the kids can pretty much run around and get on with their own thing. We have only ever once shared LS with another disabled family - other than that it is usually just us. Well worth the extra money for a nice relaxed start to the holiday.

I'd also check in first and not worry about the Disney Express as this can be a long wait, anything up to 45 minutes and obviously, it is more stress. Going to the hotel first is the lesser of 2 evils :o and you can get out of the doors without them seeing the park gates to make it easier.

If I had the choice, and everyone in the party could afford it, I'd go for the Hotel New York. You would have to rely on shuttle transport at the Explorers, and it can be a noisy hotel (its popular with school groups). The Santa Fe is great as a base, and is now Cars movie themed, I find it cheerful and colourful, but taking meals there can be a bit of a scrum. The Hotel New York is much closer to the parks, an easy walk to and fro, and you have better breakfast/dinner facilities at the HNY than at the Santa Fe.
Have you ruled out the Sequoia Lodge? Thats in the middle of the 2, again better facilities than at the Santa Fe, but not as close to the parks as the HNY. You can still easily walk from the Santa Fe and Sequoia Lodge though to the parks and back, its a 15 minute stroll at the most.

    Hi maom114,

Do any of the families have more than 2 children, and if so are they going to want to be in a hotel with a family room they can all stay in together?

If so then out of the hotels you have listed the Explorers one is the only one that has rooms big enough. All of the others only have rooms that sleep a max of 4 people.

The Disney hotels that have some bigger family rooms on site are the Disneyland Hotel and Newport Bay and Davy Crocket Ranch, but you have to have your own transport to and from Davy Crocket, no shuttle bus to it.

We have a son with Autism (our middle child) and much prefer to have a large family room where we can all be together.

The first time we went to DLP we stayed in Newport Bay in a family room on the Admirals floor and it was great. 5 - 10 min walk to the park from the hotel, and a land train or shuttle bus if we didn't feel like walking.

We are going back at half term in February and are going to the Explorers this time, sadly Newport Bay was just too expensive for us this time.

I guess the other factor is price as there is quite a price difference between those hotels.

I can't really comment on the other hotels as we've never stayed at them as they didn't have large enough rooms for us.

Do you know that if the families have got proof of their child's diagnosis they can get special passes for avoiding the queues at the rides. Below is a link to the section on the DLP website for disabled visitors.

Good luck on organizing your trip!
