Trauma in Tunisia

Has anyone any advice to those booked with Jet2 to go to Tunisia shortly? The booking contract Terms and Conditions appear to protect Jet2 from doing anything to assist unless the Foreign & Commonwealth Office puts out a statement warning people not to travel there.
Its clear that no-one could hope to have a relaxing holiday under the armed guard that is now being put in place and certainly no responsible parent would want to take their children there under current conditions.
My daughter booked an all-inclusive package in order to be able to budget carefully knowing that all food and drinks for the children would be paid for in advance. Yet until the FCO warns otherwise, people cannot get their holiday changed (unless they pay £50pp) or a total refund so equivalent alternatives will probably have been taken up by the time that may happen. Its tantamount to holding people to ransom!
Any help appreciated. Thank you.

It's not really the same as being held to ransom - at the end of the day it's not Jet2's fault that the events of last week happened, and they will have already shelled out for the accommodation etc.
If you don't want to travel that's your choice - do you have insurance that covers you for such eventualities?0 -
Don't submit to terrorism - if ordinary people stop holidaying in Tunisia the terrorists will have won and the country will collapse. It's probably one of the safest countries to visit at the moment, anyway.0

Jet 2 website says the following.
http://www.jet2.com/tunisia-information
So according to that if it's within the next 5 weeks you can change. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0 -
I suspect it's actually more about feeling safer in one's own country where it's familiar territory and quicker and easier to get home if necessary. Technically that may be irrational, but then fear isn't always rational.0

OP also has young children to consider.
And like she/ he says it's about being able to relax, which considering how the attack happened is likely to be difficult.
And unless you live in London I suspect people did cancel their trips there immediately afterwards. Plus the language barrier, health care costs and difficulty getting home, I can understand why. People avoided the US after 9/11 and they aren't brown!0 -
The FCO are not going to put a country off limits due to the actions of an individual. There is a huge difference between the likes of Syria and Iraq compared to Tunisia. I'd suggest the comparison about terrorist attacks works better with recent events in Paris, has anyone cancelled holidays in France?
I think that so long as there is still some availability in other similar Mediterranean resorts which people accept as a safer option then the Travel companies will allow changes to fill up capacity. But I don't expect that anyone who is not fully covered by insurance will be getting a refund.
And to answer the OP directly, no its nothing like being held to ransom.0 -

They're not holding anyone to ransom! It's hardly their fault.
All flights and holidays cancelled up to 5th July. If 'shortly' is after then then both Jet2 and Jet2 Holidays are offering free of charge transfers for departures in the next 35 days. Did either you or your daughter check their websites?0 -

I bet that's what the 38 people killed last Friday thought after the first attack in March.
As for the country collapsing, if that happens maybe the ALM will actually take action on their member countries who breed these terrorist, rather than sit back and let the West deal with the problem.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Well, that's untrue as a third of Tunisia is deemed too unsafe to travel to (Foreign Office Travel advice even before last week's terrorist attack).
Yes, of course, some cancelled trips to Paris - I did, as it was locked down for a week, while the gunman was on the loose!
Thankfully, tourism to New York, Copenhagen etc recovered within months. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0 -
Jet2 were slow to catch up with Thomson et al who sent 10 planes within hours.
The sight of a Jet2 rep refusing pleas of flights on TV seems to have spurred them into action.
No company likes bad publicity.
Yes legally they are not obliged to offer refunds - unless the FCO advises against all travel - but almost all are now doing so.Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer.
