Morning all,
Congratulations on the successful parties Bob and Welshkitty
Well done on completing another set of night shifts The only girl, I could never work nights, I'm too sleepy by 10pm.
So today is the very spendy day. The handyman is here to do all the odd jobs that I can't do due to lack of tools or expertise. The car was dropped at the garage at 7am and I caught the bus back and called in for milk and cat food on the way home. The car is a completely unknown expense, there are currently two issues with it and it needs a new cambelt. I need a lot of luck sending my way today and lots of fingers being crossed. If it's under £500, I'll be ecstatic.LBM = 07/09/13 Debt = £13339 (100% cleared)

Good morning Fmess. I am crossing my fingers for you and your car. I hope it's not going to cost an arm and a leg. Mine is getting the wind shield replaced today, but that's been paid for (excess of £75). The car insurance will take care of the rest. I didn't include this in July budget but luckily I had £80 left over from my tyres budget, leaving me with a £5 change."There is Life AFTER DEBT."LBM 2009 Total Debt £49046.24 Debt Free as of 27/08/20150

Mothernerd - hope you feel better soon.
Abundant - glad to hear your dark cloud passed over, I had one hanging over my head last week and kept bursting into tears.
Calling - I've never regretted buying good waterproofs and walking boots, they are worth their weight in gold if you spend a lot of time walking.
Fmess - fingers crossed for the car.
Bob - Well done on resisting the takeaway, good for your purse and your health.
I have been for a run in the woods this morning and will cycle later today, tonight I need to sort out car insurance for both of our cars as it's due on the 24th. Have already started looking at August budgets and it is a horror story, everything is due at once plus two holidays from July payday to cover (most of the money is saved), I will only be able to pay the minimum to the credit cards but can pay off the small remainder of my overdraft. September will be much better for us.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Hiya folks. Happy Monday?
Well going to have to get my act in gear to reach 20 SFD. Counting today 10/20 SFD. That just leaves me one day to spend. Yikes.
Will add up spends later. Enjoying 5 mins of peace in office and a coffee.
Joined Medicash well applied today see if I am accepted at 15.00 a month with no qualifying period for claims could help me out with dentist, glasses and chiropodist costs.
You all seem such busy bees I have been too lazy all weekend really.
Hope you feel better soon Mothernerd.
Bob - well done overcoming all your disasters and working extra in your delicate condition;-)
Westie - roast on a Monday sounds lovely so hungry. Haven't planned tea yet, looking like fish.
Tried my new boots out this morning good little walk, even though struggling with sciatica today. Felt better after getting moving, now however sat down will struggle walking again after work.
Dolly/ Bob I think waterproofs and booties are the most sensible spends I ever make.
The Only girl - lots of camping trips from now on. Cheap weekend.
Academia - never knew that about Elderflowers - learn something new every day.
Bad news - annoying friend back from holiday. Had a whole evening of her last night. Must know every meal she ate now/pubs visited.
Thinking of a friend today who has now gone into a hospice and won't be coming out. Very sad as she was always bubbly person and still far too young at 46. Life is so cruel.

Hugs calling, sorry to hear about your friend going into a hospice.
Well done on all the exercise dolly
So I still have no idea how much the car will costThe good news is that my car doesn't even have a cambelt (who knew!) so I never have to get that replaced :j but they are struggling to find the cause of the warning light so are keeping the car to work on it tomorrow too. So please keep your fingers crossed tomorrow too (unless they are aching, then you might need to stop).
The other good news was that the handyman could not do one of the jobs, which means that it cost me £20 :j The job was only minor but cannot be done in isolation so it would be a major job and cost a lot more, so I will hold off a couple more months, or until I have more money.
Today I have been trying to think of more ways to save money. I think the major expense that still needs to go is the V1rg1n m3d1a but I am still waiting to change the account into my name so that I can reduce the account. Does everyone else have Fr33vi3w? I need broadband of my current package but I don't need the other bits that come with the package.LBM = 07/09/13 Debt = £13339 (100% cleared)

Hi fmess, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and your car. Sorry about your handyman that needs a bit more time and cash. Before you know it, you will have enough money to get that job dine in your house,
It has been more than 5 years since we stopped our Sky TV subscription. We stopped using TV altogether for about 2-3 years when our very old analogue TV died (we used the catchup TV app on our iPad) and after that, when we bought a TV with built in Freeview, we thought it was sufficient for our needs. I work out of hours shifts and my hubby does 9-5 so we thought paying for TV subscription for programmes we are not home enough to watch is a waste of money (our opinion based on our needs). We got 6months free Netflix access which complemented the programs on Freeview. When the free access ended we decided to wait til we are debt free before we pay the monthly fee. At the moment we have the line rental, basic phone package (evening and weekend free calls only) and Internet for £25/month. TalkTalk is significantly cheaper but my friend said the Internet is rubbish. I hope that helps?"There is Life AFTER DEBT."LBM 2009 Total Debt £49046.24 Debt Free as of 27/08/20150 -
Hello! Bob and Calling, 'twas Nigel Slater that told me that (not me personally) - I have no idea if it's true, but Google seems to be confirming it
Calling, also sorry to hear about your friend
Fmess, good news about the cambelt, fingers crossed for the price being reasonable. We've got freeview and netflix and tbh I can't ever see any reason to get anything else (for us). I've got OH onto $ky this week to see if we can reduce the broadband by threatening to leave - +net is cheaper at the moment and $ky are offering new customers half price broadband - bit cheeky as existing ones get nothing! The Only Girl, we pay the same as you, if we get anything knocked off I'll let you know, might be worth trying it too
Today has been spendy, but in a MSE way. Found two pillows on freecycle (they're expensive ones, or seem so to me - Google tells me they probably cost the owner £40-£70 each!!) that had been used once and found to be "too hard" - they'll do nicely for our spare bed, thanks! OH went to get them earlier, they're fab. Went out for tea in town (BOGOF) and bought a large hot choc with my oh-two priority code to bring home, which I'm drinking now feeling smugI would be feeling more virtuous if I'd resisted tea altogether, but it was with the last of the money from last month, that we'd earmarked for tea (as it was BOGOF last month too, meant we could do it twice).
Hope everyone has had a nice dayBought my first house in 2014 - now, to be mortgage free!

Academia well done on the lucky find on freecycle. There are indeed nice things to be had in Freecycle. OH Has mentioned the other day that we might to replace my favourite goose feather pillows from 4ldi. He says they're making him wheeze. I have been on a search for nice pillows that won't go down after two uses. Enjoy your yummy drink!"There is Life AFTER DEBT."LBM 2009 Total Debt £49046.24 Debt Free as of 27/08/20150
