Surely the French incident is no different to what happened to Lee Rigby in the UK. Another country we expect to be safe in.

I am struggling to get my head around the way someone was attacked in France though I have to admit - ie because its one of "our" Western countries. My head hurts thinking about that...as that is a country we expect/are entitled to expect to be safe in.

France has a huge muslim population, the largest in western Europe, they've had several isolated attacks this year, Charlie Hebdo and Marseille back in February. Difference is they're 'domestic' attacks, not aimed directly at tourists, unlike Tunisia and Egypt.

All of it is now a war zone.
Anyone considering a holiday there should be fully aware of the increased risk they take.
I love that part of the world but in view of today's attacks it will be the last time I go there for a while.

What a pile of utter tosh. European holiday makers continue to visit countries such as UAE and Oman in droves.

To be honest, having visited UAE several times and having felt totally safe in the past I would be very wary of visiting there now. Tunisia was a soft target, I feel it's going to escalate before the Arab League take action.

  • Oh please. You still go to New York, you still go to Madrid, you still go to London. All of which have had far worse terrorist attacks in recent times.
    From Poland...with love.

The books are sitting just there on the floor.

Oh please, there's quite a difference between getting caught up in a random act of terrorism with indiscriminate targets and being shot down on the beach where you ARE the target. You might be happy with being a sitting duck, others aren't.

I've thought that for some time and been scoffed at on here for suggesting it.
Frankly I've no interest in lying on a sun lounger inside a compound being watched over by an armed guard.

It was off my list years ago when they first started targeting tourists.

But you'll still get people insisting Sharm is perfectly safe because it's only a tourist resort. Safe, my *rse.
