I'm not fond of certain body hair, on either gender, though it's generally more ' socially acceptable' for men to be hairy, and women less so (in the culture here.) Legs and arms I couldn't care about, but underarms, face and pubic areas I don't like in their natural state (though of course this varies by person!)

And since we're discussing body hair, I have a question about trimming pubic hair. AFAIK lots of women trim, for hygiene reasons I suspect, and thus regular trimming becomes 'necessary.' I was introduced to trimming at about the age of 12, by a friend when changing after swimming at school!

I have two teenage daughters and the subject has come up, but I'd quite like to know if pubic hair stops growing at a certain point if you never trim it, without it being overly bushy?

And is it common for men to trim?

    I know, that's 2 questions! ...

I think the hair only grows so far yes; I mean it will never grow like 4 feet long. :rotfl:

But if not trimmed it will always be 'bushy' and prob an inch to 1.5 inches long. Each to their own, but that wouldn't do for me. I like it 'bare.' :D

Some men trim a bit. Most men not I would have thought, as men having quite a bit of body hair is not an issue for most.

Deliberately choosing to not shave, when you're physically able, is just gross and unhygienic.
    In your opinion that is.

What hygiene problems occur if someone doesn't shave their legs?
    Or their armpits?
    Or anywhere else?

...and why don't men also suffer from these mythical hygiene problems?

Why is it gross when a woman doesn't shave under her arms, but totally normal when a man doesn't?

Same reason why it's not OK for women to go around topless when men can I guess, or why women who sleep with multiple partners get a reputation for being a sl-g and men don't.

It's just the way it is.

Apparently there is a great deal of social pressure on male teen to obtain that hairless look, from the !!!!!! industry.
Shaving must be a nightmare for women, but I cannot image how it must be for men in certain areas.

Depends how you do it. It's easy enough to remove the hair above the male member, but if you're going for the full Dr Evil approach and a nice shorn aesthetic throughout then you do need to exercise caution. Personally, I'd recommend a bit of cold water to make sure it all firms up down there before taking shaving implements to it.

And, apparently, you don't ever use this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Veet-Men-Hair-Removal-Cream/dp/B000KKNQBK as many of the reviews will tell you, in great detail.

That was what I was getting at, and was just about to post that link! :T

Men are supposed to be hairy, women are not

First off I can't believe you are still comparing body hair with scarring and missing limbs. How do you cover up a missing limb? Are you talking about prosthetics? A false leg=excess body hair....um yeah, I'm not getting the comparison.

You're obviously on some kind of ill-judged feminist crusade here, but not getting the response you're looking for. Deliberately choosing to not shave, when you're physically able, is just gross and unhygienic. I'm 100% certain you FWB prefers you shaven, and that's probably why he's a FWB and not a boyfriend - think about it!

The comparison is that we are born with issues that we cannot control.
I can take MEASURES ie - shave to stop my hair....but I can't stop it from growing period.
Anymore than they choose to have limbs missing or scars covering them in some way....but we can CHOOSE to cover them...with make up, prosthetic, razors etc to 'fit in' and not have people laugh at us?
If you don't get it, I can't be bothered to keep explaining it to you.

And since we were fwb for 10.5 years while I was hairless and now we are fwb while I've been a yeti for 6 months, I highly doubt my hair has anything to do with anything. and if it DID why the hell would I want to be with someone who cared about crap like that anyway =/

Because men don't normally shave under their arms and women do?

Anyway grossness is the eye of the beholder. Personally, I'm even less of a fan of hirsute ladies than I am those with tattoos and excessive body piercings, or who smoke.

    That's my problem though.

But the OP has only just decided to stop shaving, and she has had the FWB for over 10 years, so that doesn't really make sense.

Body hair isn't gross and unhygenic, it's just a bit unsightly.

As someone said above, does this apply to men too? Are men unhygenic if they don't shave their pits and bits?

Does your girlfriend know that you would leave her if she stops shaving? If my man said that, I would deliberately stop! Sorry, but that is just ridiculous!
