I'm not 'upset' over anybodies opinions.
Pretty much everyone who has posted except you and barf over on page 1 have been respectful in their views/opinions about my hair.
You never said anything respectful except to call me disgusting, tell me I need to shave 'for gods sake', called me a minger/munter and told me to get some 'self respect' LOL

Op , shaving or not is not an issue. If it was not shaving it could have been something else - fat legs or very nice legs or facial hair or strings visible above the trousers or whatever other thing that caught their attention or that they disapprove of. They probably were eastern european builders , so there are cultural differences to consider as well. Many women there don't shave. For all you know they might been not exactly disapproving
. Agreed , rude. And no , you can not be protected from rude people's reactions and sometimes even verbal abuse. I sympathise with you , the easiest thing would been to move away from them.
Would you be as incensed if you were looking 100% compliant in dress and shaving code but they still behaved like that ? Probably not. So it boils down to your perception of your hairy status. The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.0 -

I probably still would have been incensed tbh :rotfl:
I've honestly never in my life been a victim of abuse/bullying whatsoever, nobody except family/friends have ever mentioned personal stuff like that to me and I really never knew that people were so openly rude like that?
I do GET that people think I'm a freak. I would have thought the same years ago. I still remember when my mum first pointed out to me how hairy my face was. I was around 12-13 and she said it to me in the middle of the street and then dragged me off to superdrug for some wax.
After that, It sparked a hair obsession. I'd sit there shaving, tweezing, plucking EVERYTHING. and obviously, I made it much worse. I had a proper beard, like someone mentioned growing it out to rival santa claus and it's not even a joke, I could do that too! I had to shave it everyday and I had the whole 5'o clock shadow thing and I'd try to cover it with make-up so I'd have 2 layer liquid foundation. 1 layer of powder foundation, and then I'd spray my face with that sally hansen leg air brusher thing, I looked like an orange drag queen!
In 2005 I started having laser on my face...and I've been having it ever since because I was so paranoid that the hair would come back, even though now you can't see anything. I still have 2 sessions left and I'll use them because I already paid for them but after that, I'll let it grow if it wants to.
I always did all of this because I was so paranoid about what other people would think of me, Not because I hated my hair, although I didn't exactly 'like' it. Now I really don't care what people think and I genuinely do like it.
I guess I need to grow my skin a little thicker before I put on a dress and show all of my hairy glory if some people can't just handle the pits!!! lolSaved so far - £28,890.97

I still don't think we've established why female leg and armpit hair is smelly and unhygienic but the equivalent male hair is not?0

We should be allowed to choose how we look and everyone should respect our choice but that's never going to happen.
It's certainly not while its tolerated to do behave that way. Then, in the past people might have tolerated such behaviour and 'taunting' over someone simply being female, being non white, or having disability.
Increasingly society grows more aware.
I would take a very different stance be if op was saying her choice was right for ALL women, or people, and was an agenda she was trying to push, or was complaining she could not attract partners yet was intractable in her choice, because choices do have consequences, whether we like it or not.
However, some people have less choice. I read with interest the disabilities comparison, because some skin conditions make depilation more difficult, or inadvisable, and as some have mentioned, some health conditions mess with natural levels of 'hairiness' in women. These people do have less choice.
Personally, when I mentioned getting intimate laser depilation my husband agreed it was my choice but said he'd be disappointed as he enjoys the variety of options available. I'd just be pleased never to have an ingrown hair again :o and I don't seem to find growing out as uncomfortable as someone mentioned....std itch?

Fwiw I HATE the current trend for shaving off all body hair. I think it looks kinda weird.
Even men are shaving their pubes off now, eugh..
Domayne I think you should do as you want with your own body hair. Who knows, you might inadvertently start off a revolution/rebellion among other women if they see one woman being brave enough to be hairy. Far too many of us shave for fear of being laughed at, etc.0 -

Leg hair? It only grows to about 1 cm long, how can it be unhygienic :rotfl:
I do notice my armpits get smellier if I let the hair grow (sorry if tmi), so personally I do prefer to shave them every couple of weeks or so. However, I'm not very logical, because I hate to see men with shaven armpits and most men don't smell!
I like body hair, and no it's not a fetish, whoever said that. Shaving all your body-hair off is more of a fetish, if you ask me.0 -

Well I agree, but some here have said that they think the practice is unhygienic and that they think it would smell, but I presume they don't think that male hair of the same kind needs to be removed.0
