I have to agree with Georgie that lots of body hair on a woman is unsightly and quite unhygenic.
Why is it unhygienic for a woman but not for a man?

Well I agree, but some here have said that they think the practice is unhygienic and that they think it would smell, but I presume they don't think that male hair of the same kind needs to be removed.

Maybe females don't mind the smell of a man. Whereas males expect a female to smell of sugar and spice, and all things nice.

For me personally I smellmore if I don't shave under my armpits. I would assume men have to be more careful too

I also find it a bit weird about the whole waxing of the lady bits, so you look like a pre-pubescent child.

I really hate this sort of comparison, suggesting that a man who prefers a shaved lady must be some sort of !!!!!phile. There really is no link between the two.

I fully respect a woman's right to do with her own body what she wishes. If she wishes to grow her body hair go ahead. Frankly the attitude of those guys on the train were shameful and there clearly was no need for it. I also don't see how its unhygienic in the slightest.

However I personally don't like it. It's nothing to do with hygiene, it's just the look and feel I prefer. I actually don't think I could date a girl with completely natural pubic hair as it would put me off too much and if I was your FWB I'd likely end the arrangement. Strangely enough I'd be more accepting of leg and armpit hair, it's the pubic region that's more of an issue for me.

As much as it's a woman's right to do what she wants its my right to decide what I do and don't like.

I don't want to think about what slugs and snails and puppy dogs tails smell like :P

This is the crux of my point, its all about preference and I feel its wrong to shame women by pretending it's about hygiene when we don't consider it unhygienic in men.

But we don't shame all mankind into shaving it off, just the women. So whilst you may be right in that you smell a little more and maybe men do too but it's clearly a level of hygiene we all tolerate and don't question perfectly well in one half of the population.

Just for clarity I'm not anti shaving, just I think we ought to acknowledge that it is largely an aesthetic preference. To say its about hygiene is to hold different standards for women to men which I think is unreasonable.

It's not socially acceptable to mock a man in the street for his armpit hair and hairy legs or hiary genetalia, it goes unquestioned, few question his personal hygiene.

Oh for heaven's sake - stop winding each other up about this - it's personal preference after all - and by the time you reach the age of 72, you find that there ain't any underarm hair to shave/wax, and its less of a jungle down below as well! It's only the legs that are hanging on to their hairiness

By the time you get to my age, you might miss it all

    That's why I didn't mention them. :p

I agree. From my own experience, there is a bit more to it than pure aesthetics but I'm not entirely comfortable discussing it on here.

Domayne I think you should do as you want with your own body hair. Who knows, you might inadvertently start off a revolution/rebellion among other women if they see one woman being brave enough to be hairy. Far too many of us shave for fear of being laughed at, etc.

Oh please no! I can see it now, the next big selfie trend #growthehair women with arms in the air, arm pit hair wafting in the wind!

Everyone should be able to do whatever they want regarding their body hair, and should be able to be totally confident in their decision, but also, don't be outraged and offended if someone expresses their distaste towards it. If you're offended by that, you're obviously not as comfortable with your decision as you make out you are OP.

Why should it be acceptable to publicly laugh at, or pass comment on, a stranger's appearance?

Would it be ok if I were to ridicule someone because they have a port wine stain on their face but have chosen not to use camouflage makeup?

How would you know that the hirsute woman you are laughing at doesn't have polycystic ovaries causing an excess of hair?

Whether the OP is confident in their decision to ditch the razor, wax and tweezers is irrelevant - why should she be abused by anyone?
