I can't work out what advantage there is to Apple pay against just using a contactless card. I suppose that there is a benefit in additional security as you'd need to authorise it with a fingerprint but it doesn't stop the possibility of losing your card.

I'm not going to start leaving home without my wallet any time soon. It's not as if iPhones are famous for their long battery life, after all.

There may well be good reasons to be excited about it but I've yet to be convinced.

For one, it'll let me use my Nationwide credit card contactlessly. Useful for the pub where it's irritating for everyone to have to wait for chip and pin - contactless is instant but chip and pin dials in at my local. I'll leave quite a few of my cards out of my wallet when it launches. My wallet's too chunky at the mo so that'll be good.

    And fun! For me anyway.

I know there are people out there who refuse to use Contactless (for various reasons) but I, for one, can't wait to try it out on my phone.

I'm not saying it'll replace my wallet and physical cards (yet) but it's handy to know it'll be there if I leave them behind at home.

Will be interesting to see if it causes queues on the London Underground at peak times.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

I can see many advantages of Apple Pay, including
    1. much higher limits than contactless payments
    2. easy to swap between different cards, even if you don't have the physical card on you
    3. instant recording of the payments I have made
    4. no fumbling for a credit / debit card

It's a very long way from my ideal method of paying - fingerprint or iris print - but a great step forward.

Why would it? It's as quick as using a physical contactless card. I've registered my US Amex card with Apple Pay, and it already works with TfL yellow card readers. You can use it in one of two ways:
    1. Hold your iPhone near the yellow card reader and it immediately lights up with a picture of your default card. Just touch your fingerprint to touch in or out.
    2. Open Passbook (which will be on the lock screen in iOS 9), touch your fingerprint and then hold it near the yellow card reader to touch in or out.
I've noticed that my iPhone 6 detects the yellow card reader from around 10cm, whereas a contactless card has to be almost placed on the card reader to work. Presumably this is because the iPhone's NFC is powered by a powerful battery whereas a contactless card is not.

Why limit apple pay to fingerprint authentication, when it would have been just as secure to enter your 4 digit PIN number into the phone .. it would then have allowed the software to run on on any device and not just those that have fingerprint recognition.

It seems apple have not thought it through to benefit the majority... It's simply about making us all buy the iPhone 6 or iwatch.

I personally think take up will be very slow as most people are happy with their iPhone 5 and iPad Air v1 and earlier devices... None of which will be able to use apple pay.

Mad isn't it?! It's almost as if they're in business to sell loads of stuff and make loads of money.

You can use PIN verification instead, you just turn off Touch ID. The only reason it only works on iPhone 6 and Apple Watch is because they are the only apple devices to feature NFC (The technology needed to communicate with card machines).

Not sure how a four digit pin is as secure as a fingerprint when the former can easily be seen by onlookers?

I guess it depends on your definition of very slow but in two years time a lot of people will have phones capable of Apple Pay. It's taken since 2007 for contactless to get where it is now.

I remain unconvinced. I'm a bit of a geek so I will use it from time to time but I just don't see that it's any more convenient than using your card (presuming that it's contactless).

I can load all of my debit/credit cards onto the phone and switch between them but I can easily do that with my wallet. If anything it's easier to switch between them.

Does anyone else ever have trouble with the fingerprint sensor when you're wet or sweaty? Sometimes I try three or four times to unlock the phone before it presents me with the numberpad to put my code in. I can't see why this wouldn't also happen with Apple pay. in the few seconds it would take I could have used my contactless card easily.

It seems that it will be possible to use it for higher sums than the £20 (soon to be £30) with contactless so that would be useful on occasion but it's hardly life changing.

Chip and pin probably takes five or six seconds and contactless one.

I hope that this doesn't come across as an argumentative post; I'm merely putting forward a different opinion. It's entirely possible that once it's here and I've loaded it all on my phone I'll be raving about it.

Thinking about it, one area that might be useful is if I can load my Travelex Supercard on it for use abroad.
