Indeed. For the same reason, I go first to Homebase and only go to B&Q if I can't find what I need at Homebase. I want my Avios for spending on Amex!

Funny, I do the same thing as well. Makes me wonder how many customers they have lost.

Well their sales are down. This from just a couple of weeks ago:

When I think about it, I think I subconsciously avoid most places that don't Amex haha.
  • Hey guys! Just wondering, I bought a product from Apple using Apple finance thinking it would be leaving my bank through direct debt each month, I've received no payments for the past few months and starting to worry that I've misunderstood and should be paying for the product in another way, I've received nothing through the post telling me I should be paying in a certain way and received no info with the product, cheers :)

Apple has published some guidelines to retailers about Apple Pay at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204906
"If you accept contactless payment today, you're likely able to accept Apple Pay without any changes."
So the handful of participating retailers has become rather pointless if it can in fact be used anywhere that contactless payments are accepted.

You wouldn't receive payments if you bought something on finance, you'd be making the payments.

You should be checking the finance agreement you signed, and contact the firm (Apple?) to clarify the payments arrangements. If you don't pay, there is a real danger that the debt will be sold to a Debt Recovery agency. These are usually very unforgiving and your credit agency records could get ruined for years ahead.

Indeed, and Apple Pay isn't live yet anyway, so you can't have used it for this. Your question belongs elsewhere, not in this thread.

Thanks for alerting me to the guidelines. I think it was always expected that it would work anywhere with contactless. The key thing I can see in this is confirmation that payments will be limited to £20 (£30 from September) unless the terminals and payment providers support the latest network specifications. I expect the list of participating retailers have committed to this - I know Boots will be limitless from November.

I can't work out what advantage there is to Apple pay against just using a contactless card. I suppose that there is a benefit in additional security as you'd need to authorise it with a fingerprint but it doesn't stop the possibility of losing your card.

I'm not going to start leaving home without my wallet any time soon. It's not as if iPhones are famous for their long battery life, after all.

There may well be good reasons to be excited about it but I've yet to be convinced.

It saves having to get your wallet out of your pocket and your card out of your wallet. It makes everything much quicker, particularly if you're someone who is constantly using their iPhone. The most obvious benefit is on the Tube, but also in bars and pubs where you might be using your iPhone while waiting to be served and you can then pay with your iPhone without having to fumble around between iPhone and wallet and card.
