So that's what? 50% of what you claim the car will do? Good argument Darkmatter.
And given that US fuel is lower spec than EU stuff (87RON IIRC) that might add a few more MPG to the total.
Can't see it being far beyond 30MPG though to be honest

In fairness there is a (mangled up) point here -- the US gallon is smaller than the UK one.
The US doesn't use imperial, that's kind of the point...
By a standard spanner in the U.S. and it will be imperial.
But the actual point I was making is its easy to find conflicting data online.0 -

That isn't the official MPG figure though is it? The official stat is:
Urban mpg
28.8 mpg
Extra Urban mpg
49.6 mpg
Average mpg
39.2 mpg
Obviously take away 10% off those values for the real world. BMW 3 litre petrol engines have always known to be relatively efficient on long motorway runs and 45mpg for these cars isn't unheard of.0 -

Nope. It'll be US spec. An American would give you a blank look if you mentioned the word "Imperial".
Some US measures are the same as Imperial, but this is bordering on coincidental as they have diverged.
The US gallon is roughly 8/9 the size of the Imperial one.0 -

Forget the official statistics, you're confusing your own argument. You called someone an 'idiot' for quoting a US test - a real test, not some EDC test on a rolling road. The fact that US MPG is lower than UK MPG was correctly identified by you (well done, that's a first), but the real-world test, once converted, still only equates to a REAL 24MPG (allow a bit more for better UK fuel and maybe 28-30MPG is about right).
So official figures can say what they like. Real owners (remember not everyone is a fantasist like you) do NOT get 50MPG from a 3L 5 Series.0 -

Ok do the maths and tell me after making allowances for American fuel its 50 mpg.

How credible is that random American site? Why can't we reply on official UK/EU figures that I HAVE quoted. I don't know where that American site got those figures from, probably from several people there driving their Automatics. FYI we are talking about a 3 series here not a bigger, heavier 5 series.
The truth us the BMW is better than the Astra and Insignia in every possible way. Case closed.0 -

Nor a 3 series, before he's all over it like a cheap suit.0
