As fleet cars I presume you've mainly driven 4 cylinder diesel BMW's? An inline NA 6 cylinder BMW petrol will feel a little more nimble and balanced as they aren't as front heavy as the diesels.
People here just need get rid of that chip on their shoulder and admit the BMWs (and other premium Brands) are better than their fords/Vauxhall or whichever French car they drive
Really a 330i is heavier than a 320d overall so how have they managed to make the front end lighter?0 -
Read up on the BMW forums. The petrol inline 6 NA are said to feel more agile than the diesels including the 4 cylinders. BMW enthusiasts say the petrol engines are pushed further back into the engine bay for better centre of gravity.
Post some up links or evidence for the weights of the e90 BMWs.0 -

Nimble ? hell yes, couple of years ago a 3 series saloon endeared me to the marque by saving me from embedding in the side of a foreign registered car which seriously overshot the stop line at a T junction, right when I was on him. The vicious swerve around him would have put a lesser car into the scenery but the dear old beemer just executed a sweet circumvention without even a squeak from her wheels, seemed to just tuck in and waltz round like a prop forward avoiding a centre back and going for the line.
Yeah the smaller 4 pot petrols in the older cars especially E36 felt a lot more agile than the 6 pots. Read many stories of how a BMW can save your life by executing sharp turns to avoid dangerous situations.0 -

Oh so you've read they feel more agile, it's not from personal experience?

The information on that the '330i' is incorrect. Those are the specifications for the 335i, website has it mixed up. 335i is a 6 cylinder turbo charged engine and uses the older (and heavier) engine block from the E46 series. Clue: It says turbo charged petrol and has hp/torque figures of the 335i. The newer e90 330i and 325i use a lighter magnesium/aluminium alloy.

It's on the web, it most be correct, just like you comments.
Where's your data then darkmatter?0 -
neil.woos:Finally someone with common sense. I'm glad you pointed out that the BMW 325i has a better performing, more complex engine than the Insigia and by a wide margin. Substantially more powerful, more refined yet more efficient. That is what you call Engineering.
Now, your beloved BMW is a coarse simple coal burning lump, compared to a Ferrari 458. But it's more expensive. Haven't you heard of people who want to get from a to b? Can't you see that an Insignia might be better for their purposes than a 3 series? Don't you ever take purchase/running costs into account?
ChumLee - you're doing your argument no favours using American sites, stick to UK ones. Suspension is one thing that could be completely different on a yank car from a UK car, which would affect the 'nimbleness' of it.0
