suggestions for a new car

Ever hard of SI units or Le Système International d'Unit!s? I think not.
Probably a bit unfortunate to put a spelling mistake in an insult suggesting someone should go back to eduction!
To be fair - BMW 3 series are good cars and probably the mistake is to argue about MPG on a post where it is irrelevant. The 3 series is a solid, reliable car which is also fantastic to drive. I used to have one and loved it - I would have another if I was allowed to! It is not great if you have a young family because the boot is a little narrow and you only really have 4 seats, but that is only circumstantial.
For what it's worth, I have always found BMWs to have surprisingly good fuel economy, particular on the petrol engines. To err is human, but it is against company policy.0 -
Funny how everyone like ChumLee and dannyrst become quiet after they have been proven wrong.0

You've not proved anyone wrong. You have correctly identified that there are cars whose 'combined' comparison MPG figures are lower than those of the 3.0L repmobile you brought up, but you haven't provided one shred of evidence to contradict the point at hand - which is that said repmobile ain't ever going to give 50MPG, whether on a long run or not (unless trundling along at 50MPH in 6th is your way of proving it - which isn't a representative test).0 -

No doubt that even an entry level 6 cylinder 325i BMW is a lot more superior than a Vauxhall Insignia. The 330i with 272hp is even better (with same MPG figures). Even the older generation 1999-2005 BMW 330i is a lot better engineered and better to drive than any newer Vauxhall Astra or Insignia.
God knows how a 335i will trample any Vauxhall Insignia on the road from comfort, luxury, quality, handling and driving pleasure.0 -

Do you just want to waste your time creating AEs to see how long it takes to be found out, or do you want to be a useful member of society?
If it's the first, then well done, you've achieved your goal. I'm sure you'll be PPRd soon with your abusive posts where you've been called out.
If it's the latter, then you need to grow the !!!! up.
I want people to acknowledge that there are cars like BMW that are superior to Fords and Vauxhalls. And why you call a 3 litre petrol a rep mobile is beyond me? I thought the 3 series rep mobil is an entry level 320d?
Hardly ever recall seeing a 330i as a company rep mobil.0 -
If someone has a 325i/330i or 335i with BMW individual paint, BMW custom leather seats, fully loaded interior, xeon lights etc does it mean they have a bog standard rep mobil?0

Every person I have ever known who has owned an older BMW has had nothing but trouble with it. And that is not an exaggeration either.
Whereas older Vauxhalls and Fords generally hold themselves together fairly well.0 -

As both Ford and Vauxhall have a much better rating for reliability with used cars than BMW I'm far from sure that's the case.

In the survey above Ford were 6th, Vauxhall was 19th with BMW at 28th, that together with the price of spares for a BMW. I would say it would be an extremely poor purchase from an money saving perspective.0 -

Oh dear lord. See, this is the exact type of blasphemy you get, especially prevalent on MSE forums. BMW/Merc interiors are of far higher quality than Fords and Vauxhalls.
BMW's are a lot better engineered than Fords and Vauxhalls. They are A LOT better to drive, better handling, better driving dynamics, higher quality interiors, better made and the list goes on....0 -

I did not mention the interior plastics, which are an irrelevance. And FWIW, BMW interiors are just as apt to not going back together properly if ripped open to put radios etc in as any other -- so the plastics can't be that fantastic.
Indeed my experience is that BMW interiors are mostly clip-fit, just like Ford/GM. In this regard they are still light-years behind the Japanese who may use cheap plastics, but actually screw and bolt most of it down.
As I say though, plastics are irrelevant. Mechanical reliability is king with older cars. BMWs may be over-engineered but when they go wrong they tend to lunch huge parts of the running gear, requiring major repairs which run to many hundreds of pounds.
If you want a car that just works, you buy Japanese.
I think your use of the word 'blasphemy' is quite apt, in the context of your religious devotion to BMWs.0
