This might be a good time to shop around for a cheaper unmetered deal rather than BT's expensive offerings.

customer using "sweet dreams" pirated win 8 with media centre , win upgrade accepted it and slmgr /xpr shows it as a full legit copy (machine is activated) , full wipe out and reload and totally legal.
seems they blocked the "toolkit" and "rwat" but left this patch active
to the criminal minded its like having a box of win 8 licences ,
Of course that's the case, let me quote Bill Gates immortal lines:
"As long as they're going to steal it, we want them to steal ours. They'll get sort of addicted, and then we'll somehow figure out how to collect sometime in the next decade."
W10 is monetising you just like Android now, no need to wait 10 years as it's already here. The age of the paid for consumer OS is pretty much over, the money is now in the content, advertising and metrics.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
yup , but interestingly (bit like win 8 bios) its the machine that's locked to Microsoft servers , so once registered , it can be wiped out and anyone can install a "free" copy of windows at any time , no key or sticker needed.
wonder when "pre reg" machines will start shipping from china?
PS , I use a old nokia phone with a square nono screen and proper buttons , not a stupid "jack of all trades , do each one crap" android thing0 -

By the way I think your maths are a bit out, 6GB is 60% of 10GB.
"Download" has used up around 10% of my b/b usage!

Thanks for that very useful (yes got the maths wrong). Have now looked on the Windows update page and see 3 failed attempts to upgrade to 10. So have changed settings to let me choose what updates to install.
Hopefully that should do it.
Thanks againHolding back the years...0 -

I always wondered why M$ simply didnt make Windows cheap so folks bought it rather than the hassle of cracking it.
I got W8 for under £20 and Office 2013 for £10. or that money its a no brainer to have a legit copy.0 -

The reason is purely financial
How many installations of Win 7 did MS sell ?
And how many pirated installations exist ?
PROFIT !!0 -
I bought both my Windows 7 machines used with Windows 7 pre-installed.
Now getting the Migrate to Windows 10 offer popping up.
But of course I'm concerned that the Windows 7 with auto updates on etc, which currently does not complain of any license issue, will convert to a Windows 10 that not activated and when I tre to do that, will ask me to buy a license key
as per

Any thoughts?0 -

Big OEM's pay nowhere near the street price for installing Windows

I suspect those numbers are even lower for the likes of Dell, Lenovo, HP etc.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

Yup,but why not let Joe punter have it for a lower price and get everyone used to (well most) having legit copies.
If OEMS get it,students, people who get it through work etc (like myself) then Im guessing the difference in profit from lower prices would be met by more purchases.0
